Hate Sink / Red Dead Redemption

Red Dead Redemption
  • Despite ultimately being the main antagonist, Edgar Ross is a lawman who, despite his underhanded methods - such as keeping John's family captive - does have at least a few good points, and it's hard to fault someone who's trying to clean up the crime-ridden, dangerous world that is the old west. However, he's such an underhanded, snide asshole who's also clearly in it for personal glory that despite these good points, we're able to sympathize with John and not take Ross' side in the matter, hating him as much as John does. Indeed, he's ultimately one of, if not the most despised characters in the game, for betraying John, leading a seige on his ranch, and killing him. The one upside is that the very final mission is Jack getting to pump him full of lead.
  • Bill Williamson became one in the first game (since the second game is a prequel). Despite his tragic backstory, he has become as loathsome as Micah, casually committing Rape, Pillage, and Burn for kicks. He's also an utter jerkass who make fun of John's family in his last seconds.
  • Colonel Agustin Allende is the governor of Nuevo Paraiso who brutalizes the common people he rules over. He's also a loathsome man who frequently has a lot of people slaughtered, and women kidnapped and raped for him.
  • Randall Forrester, an Ax-Crazy Serial Killer and cannibal whose depravity knows absolutely no bounds.

Red Dead Redemption 2

  • Micah Bell. He is considered to be the least moral of the Van Der Linde gang but what makes him a very despicable character is that he sells out the whole gang to the Pinkerton Dectective Agency for the sake of greed. He also murdered Susan Grimshaw during a standoff and depending on player actions also murders protagonist Arthur Morgan. He also is heavily implied to have killed the camp dog solely to be mean to four year old Jack. Fortunately like the previous game, this one also grants players the chance to get revenge during the epilogue against Bell while playing as John Marston. He certainly gets worse years later, becoming the leader of a gang of brutal bandits who commit Rape, Pillage, and Burn. He is even more than willing to kill children. Even in this game, hurting kids is way over any sort of line.
  • Colm O'Driscoll is basically the exact opposite of Dutch. Unlike Dutch, Colm is stupid, unnecessarily cruel, nasty, unlikable, lacks of Evil Virtues and not a very charismatic leader, and while Dutch's gang is small, but filled with some of the most prolific hitmen and gunmen of the time, the O'Driscoll gang is just a huge army of poorly trained idiots, who only really have their numbers as an advantage. Nothing is pleasant about Colm except the sight of what was coming to him.
  • Angelo Bronte, the Arc Villain of Chapter 4. While a tad nicer than most of the nasty pieces of work the game has to offer, he's still an obnoxious Smug Snake and snob who's nothing but demeaning to practically everyone around him. Much like Devin Weston, he believes his vast wealth means he can get people to do anything he wants; all he has to do is name the right figure. Also similar to Weston, he finds out that all the money in the world is worthless when offered to men who are devoted to ideals other than money.
  • Colonel Henry Favours is easily one of the most repugnant characters in the storyline. All we see of Favours is a smug, racist asshole without likable traits.
  • It's made abundantly clear that some gangs of the game are meant to be hated with their casual murder, sadism, gleeful violence, smug overconfidence, constant harassment, occasional bigotry, and/or overall brutal nature. The O'Driscolls, Murfree Brood, Night Folk and the Skinner Brothers are gangs with a lot of these. This provided players a very good reason to kill, torture and slaughter members of these gangs as they want.
