- The Flower Princess and the Alchemist: Edward comes so close to realizing his true feelings for Orihime when he jealously admits he doesn't want her to end up with Ichigo or any other guy. He wants her to stick by his side. According to him, he's just naturally possessive of her. He never outright comments he's in love with her, nor does he take notice of how deep his feelings run for her, but this is the closest to an confession that he's ever gotten.
- In Thousand Shinji, Rei realized she'd fallen for Shinji and was insanely jealous of Asuka when Shinji and Asuka started dating.
- In The Trickster and the Grand Order, Mash’s relief upon hearing that Ren had rejected Sumire’s love confession is what makes her start to realize she has a crush on him.
- In What You Already Know, despite having shared a kiss over a month ago, as well as a few intense emotional moments since then, Daniel only realises that he’s in love with Sam about a minute after he learns she’s dating someone else (although Jack had guessed this a couple of weeks ago).
- If I Can't Be Everything To You, You'll Be Nothing To Me: After breaking off their Secret Relationship while proclaiming that he's not into guys after all, Jon finds himself agonizing over losing Damien. However, he only realizes just how much he cares for his ex-boyfriend when Cain kisses Damien in front of him just to rub it in.
- Skyhold Academy Yearbook: In The Memory Band, Varric admits to his wife that he had one of these when they were celebrating her college graduation and he watched her interacting with their friend Sebastian.
- In The Life and Times, Marlene Price realises she is in love with Adam McKinnon because she is jealous of his new girlfriend Prudence.
- Bellatrix in Those Gilded Chains We Wear reveals her feelings to Hermione while furious that she kissed Ron (on the cheek) after reestablishing her friendship with him.
- For His Own Sake:
- In an Anguished Declaration of Love, Motoko admits that this is part of why she treated Keitaro so poorly. She couldn't bear to admit how much she'd wished that he had chosen her instead of Naru, and let that fuel her cruel treatment of him.
- Notably averted with Naru. While the story opens with Keitaro breaking up with her after growing a spine, and he proceeds to find happiness with another girl, this doesn't spur her to realize how much she really cared about him. Instead, she just gets pissed at him for daring to be happy, period. The only times that Naru claims to want him back are explicitly shown to be her pursuing an angle:
- Firstly, she exploits Mutsumi's delusional desire to help them get back together to lure him into a trap so she can beat the shit out of him while he's tied up and helpless. When Mutsumi protests this, she freely admits that she lied.
- Later, she attempts to hook back up with him after both of her parents refuse to take her in after how she'd treated them. When Keitaro rejects her, she throws a fit.
- Brokenhearted: After finding out Ladybug has a boyfriend and getting dumped by Kagami, Adrien realizes seeing Marinette go to Luka hurts way worse than either of the other ones. Things only get worse for him when he figures out that Ladybug and Marinette are the same person, and it's too hard for him to be around her knowing that he blew it, so he ends up returning his miraculous and going back to homeschooling just to avoid her.
- Feralnette AU offers a variation that's completely Played for Laughs. When Marinette drags Felix out of their classroom in a headlock, Felix brushes off Alya's concern by you're just jealous. This spurs Adrien to tearfully admit that he's jealous - he wants to be carried like that! This spurs his realization that he's into buff women, which leaves him starry-eyed in wonder.
- Adrien gets this again with Marinette in Jerk in Sheep's Clothing. Only this time, instead of sweet, sensitive
Marty Stu musician Luka who truly cares for Marinette, Adrien’s competition for Marinette is Manipulative Bastard OC Henri LeRoi, who plans to turn her against him and all her friends.
- Crimson and Emerald: Katsuki is so used to having Izuku fawning after him that he's outraged and disturbed once he stops, belatedly realizing that he'd taken his admiration and attention for granted.
My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic
- The Ponies of Olympus series has this eventually happen to Rarity in regards to her feelings for Spike. Her obvious anger at Ran Biao for seducing him, plus her previous jealousy of his friendship with Wavedancer, are both used as evidence by Sweetie Belle to get her to admit to herself that she likes him back.
- Sakura in A Growing Affection after Naruto starts dating Hinata.
- Naru-Hina Chronicles: After seeing Tanaka interacting with Naruto and being under the impression they are flirting, Ichiro becomes jealous and realizes he has feelings for Tanaka.
- Songbird: Naruko is hit with this hard after Hino starts dating someone else.
- True Potential: In Chapter 33, Roshi asks Naruto how he'd reacted if he learned that Roto likes Hinata. Naruto promptly panics, trying to come up with all kinds of reasons why they couldn't possibly like each other, until Roshi points out that he wouldn't be reacting this way if he wasn't jealous. This gets him to realize that he does like the latter as more than just a friend.
- Inverted in Advice and Trust. Rei finds out why Ritsuko hates her when she realizes the scientist loves Gendo and is jealous of her.
- A Crown of Stars: During a conversation, Asuka tells Shinji she got hurt when she caught Rei and him talking because she realized how strong her feelings towards him were and at the same time she thought she had already lost.
- Doing It Right This Time: Subverted. When Asuka begins to suspect that Rei's feelings towards Shinji are not sisterly at all, she gets jealous... and then stops herself, remembering that was when everything started to go wrong in the original timeline (her loving Shinji but being unable to spit it out and being jealous of Rei because she thought that Shinji liked her was a major factor in her break-down).
- In Futures Freak Me Out, Asuka says to herself repeatedly that she and Shinji are just friends because she should not risk their friendship. Then, one classmate invites herself over for a dinner, flirts with Shinji, and Asuka snaps and has a breakdown. After she has recovered, Asuka tells Shinji she wants them date and she does not want him to ever see Hitomi again."I think we should date."
No laughter now. Silence and the sound of a person thinking, if that's a sound at all. I can hear it over the running water, in my state.
"...what?"
"I don't ever want you to see that girl again. I want to be your girlfriend and I want us to date. I think we should do that," I swallow, ashamed that I didn't have the courage to do this face-to-face. - In Neon Metathesis Evangelion, Rei is "worried" when she sees "personal bonding" between Asuka and Shinji. She logically deduces that what she is feeling is jealousy and that hence the "warmth" she has been feeling around Shinji must be love. Of course, as she later also begins to develop feelings for Asuka, that jealousy becomes a non-issue on her end.
- Once More With Feeling (Crazy-88): Shinji's memories he got during Instrumentality show Asuka was jealous after seeing him talking to Rei because she thought she had lost something she had just realized she wanted.
- The One I Love Is...:
- During a synch test, Rei saw Shinji's memories and realized he was drawn to Asuka... and that realization made her angry and anxious. Then she realized she loved him.
- The immediate consequence of the abovementioned epiphany was Rei starting flirting with Shinji, which in turn made Asuka very jealous and forced her to admit she also loved Shinji.
- Ash and Serena's Atomic Odyssey: An unusual example happens in Chapter 40, as it takes place in a dream. Ash has a nightmare where Serena dumps him for another boy, which makes him start fearing someone may take her away.
- Serena accidentally invokes this in Ash in The One Where Bonnie Tries to Set Clemont Up With All the Girls
. Unfortunately for her, it's not an epiphany about herself. When Serena finds out about Misty, she asks Ash if he would mind Bonnie trying to hook Misty up with Clemont. Ash comes to the conclusion that he would be bothered. - In So Wrong and Yet So Right Goh realizes that he's in love Chloe when it looks like she started dating Ash. Fortunately for Goh, Ash was going on fake dates with Chloe as "practice" for his real date with Serena, who was about to visit Kanto, which earns him a small reprimand from Chloe since she warned him that it would look like they were dating for real. The ending then reveals that this was deliberate on Ash's part in order to trigger said epiphany on Goh.
- Rosario Vampire: Brightest Darkness Act III: Yukari spends several chapters of Act III jealous of Ahakon's relationship with Apoch and Astreal, but repeatedly denies it, insisting that she doesn't care. Eventually, she realizes she does care, and has fallen in love with Ahakon.
- Stay: Star finally realizes her feelings for Marco when Janna lies to her, claiming to have gotten "a little weird and a little wild" with him.
- A lot of doujinshi featuring her has this happening to Parsee, the resident (literal) Green-Eyed Monster.
