Funny / Riley's First Date?

Go To

  • When Jordan shows up at their house, Mr. Andersen's emotions hit the alarm.
    Dad's Anger: RED ALERT!
    Alarms: BOY! BOY! BOY!
  • Mr Andersen's emotions proceed to get a bit overprotective:
Dad's Anger: I know what you're doing here, Jordan. You don't think that I know what you know, but I know, you little punk!
Dad's Fear: He's not good enough for Riley! No one is!
Dad's Sadness: Go back to jail!
  • While Mr and Mrs Andersen are freaking out about the possibility of their daughter going on a date with a boy, the boy in question is sitting at their kitchen table staring blankly into space with a gormless expression on his face.
  • Mom's attempt at masking her probing about the boy Riley's invited over with "cool words the kids say" isn't as flawless as she thinks:
Mom: So, what's the dealio with Jordan? OMG, he is awesomesauce. Fo' shizzy!
[Inside Riley's control centre, her emotions stare blankly]
Joy: ... Did she just say "fo' shizzy?"
    Sadness: I don't understand. What's happening?
Disgust: Ugh, this is just embarrassing! I can't. I c-can't. [Storms off]
Mom: Holla! [Joy, Sadness, Fear, and Anger cringe in pain]
    • At the end, after Riley FINALLY convinces her mother's that it's not a date...
Mom: Oh, fun! Well, that'll be off the hook. L-O-L!
      Anger: STOP TALKING LIKE THAT!!
    • And just when you think it's safe, as Riley and Jordan are leaving, Mom bids them farewell with:
      Mom: Peace out, homies!
  • The bulk of the short is Dad and his emotions going full overprotective on Jordan. The entire scene is uproarious!
    • First, the insults, that you can see higher. And also...
Dad's Anger: What are you looking for, Jordan? Something to steal?
      Dad's Sadness: Like our daughter.
    • Then, the silent treatment.
Dad's Anger: He's about to crack, I can feel it...
[Cut to Jordan's emotions skating, playing guitar, ie Jordan's daydreaming.]
      Dad's Fear: It's not working!
Dad's Anger: Two can play your mind games, Jordan...
    • Then, the intimidation.
[Dad's Fear mashes repeatedly the "Man up" button.]
[Dad puffs up his chest and glares]
Jordan's Fear: Dude, what's he lookin' at?
Jordan's Joy: Probably your dumb hat. [Snickers.]
      [Fear starts throttling Joy.]
[Disgust points and laughs while still on his skateboard and trips over the memory projector.]
      [Jordan has a little laugh.]
Dad's Fear: Sir, intimidation is failing!
Dad's Anger: Increase the pressure! Engage!
Dad (venomous tone): So, Jordan, what do you like to do? For fun.
      Jordan: I don't know. Stuff.
Dad's Fear: Sir, that sounds like backtalk!
Dad's Anger: (head bursts aflame) THAT'S IT!! He's outta here! Give him the boot.
    • Cue the alarm, the security belts, the big scary lever, the countdown, the Death Glare...
    • Jordan's memories are spilling all over the place as his emotions party, which is hysterical after the movie treated this as such a big deal.
  • The memory. God, that wig...
  • The scene with Jordan and Dad air guitaring on AC/DC. Riley's "WTF?!" face sells it. Meanwhile, Dad gets so into it that he flips over a chair - followed by the kitchen table.
    • Jordan's response to said table being knocked over? "Awesome!"
  • Once Riley and Jordan are leaving, Dad points out that Jordan is actually a pretty good guy and Mom leans against him, telling him he's not all bad himself.
Dad's Fear: Sir, the wife has initiated contact. What do we do?
Dad's Anger: This is our chance. Give her the look.
Dad's Fear presses a button and Dad gives Mom a flirtatious smile
Mom's Disgust: He's making that stupid face again.
Mom's Anger: Should we smack him?
Mom's Joy: Come on. He's adorable! (presses a button, making Mom smile and lean in)
Dad's Sadness: There's the signal! (Dad's Disgust, Fear, Joy, and Sadness begin clacking on their keyboards)
Dad's Fear: We are go. Repeat, we are go.
Dad's Anger: (stands up in his seat) Contact in five, four, three, two...
    • Then they kiss. Cue fireworks going off in Dad's head and AC/DC's "Back in Black" playing as his Emotions cheer with Dad's Anger air guitaring!
    • The Stinger has Mom's emotions all contently listening to "Take My Breath Away" from the Top Gun soundtrack. Mom's Sadness asks "I'm good. Are you guys good?" "We're good." and she breaks the kiss, leaving Dad stood there kissing air. Funnier is that the song plays after the credits reveal that it's the only other licensed song in the short, giving viewers some time to think, "Wait a sec, I don't remember hearing that song in this short." before it plays.
  • In Real Life, a popular Vine clip points out the striking similarity between Mr. Andersen & Randy Jones (the cowboy from the original line-up of the Village People.)
Mr. Andersen: I was in a band.
[cue clip of Jones dancing in the 'Y.M.C.A.' music video].
