• Chu Qiao throws a stone at Madam Song to stop her beating Chu Qiao's sisters. Madam Song thinks she's developed an inexplicable pain in her leg. Chu Qiao tells her solemnly that leg pain is very serious and she should see a doctor before it spreads. Madam Song believes her and leaves at once.
• Yuan Chun is excited to see Yan Xun. Yuan Song complains she's so busy greeting Yan Xun she hasn't even noticed her brother is sitting beside her. Yuan Chun retorts he isn't worth looking at.
  • Later Yuan Chun compares Yuan Song to a pig. Outraged, he chases her around the courtyard, and when Yan Xun gets dragged into the middle of the fight Yuan Song tickles him to make him move.
• Chu Qiao makes tea for Yuwen Yue... or tries to. He finds fault with every cup she brings him. Exasperated, she brings him an entire tray of teacups, all brewed differently, in the hope he'll be happy with at least one of them.
• Chu Qiao tells Yuan Song a lot of nonsense when he asks who she is, including that her name is Non-existent and she lives in Fiction Court. Yuan Song doesn't realise he's been tricked and cheerfully repeats her story to Yuwen Yue and Yan Xun. Yan Xun is visibly struggling to hold back his laughter.
• A fight breaks out in a shop between Xiao Yu, Zhong Yu, Chu Qiao, and their friends. The shopkeeper's main concern isn't that several deadly warriors are trying to kill each other right in front of him. Instead he's much more upset about how many of his wares are destroyed in the crossfire.
• Yuan Che and some of the Xiu Li Army discuss Xiao Ce's... eccentricities. In the middle of the conversation a soldier arrives to report Xiao Ce will be delayed even longer because he caught a cold. Yuan Che says he'll go to greet him. The soldier stops him — Xiao Ce doesn't like talking to men and he sent word that seeing Yuan Che will make him worse. Everyone looks completely fed up with Xiao Ce's oddities.
  • Xiao Ce arrives and immediately makes a nuisance of himself. First he woke Yuan Song in the middle of the night because his bed was uncomfortable. The next morning he complained the maids were ugly. When Yuan Song replaced them with prettier maids, Xiao Ce complained none of them could sing or recite poetry. After that he criticised the meal, refused to drink tea he considered too old, and forced the guards to change their shoes because he didn't like how noisy they were. He drives Yuan Song to drink and grumble to Yuan Che about his antics.
  • Yuan Song realises Xiao Ce is about to barge in. He and Yuan Che exchange looks, then Yuan Che stares straight ahead with an Oh, Crap! expression while Yuan Song facepalms.
• Chu Qiao protects Xiao Ce during the ambush... by kicking and punching him out of the way of the arrows.
