"It's your girl Sana here! These funny moments might be tempting to read, but you might wanna check out the series first. All of the spoilers are unmarked, and I wouldn't want anyone to spoil anything for me, even though I'm the main character!

Despite the constant listings for it being Darker and Edgier than most shoujo affairs, the series, the anime in particular, makes up for it by being Denser and Wackier than most others as well, as it has a large helping of comedy to help with levity.

     General
  • Babbit and Zenjironote  were created specifically for the anime to lighten the mood on some of the darker scenes and accentuate the comedy to the maximum, sometimes working too well.
  • The majority of Sana’s rap songs in the anime are bound to get a laugh out of most people.
  • There's a Running Gag that has many of the characters caught off-guard and surprised any time Akito shows formal politeness.
    • Natsumi becoming completely wigged-out just by him calling their dad "sir" and then thanking him for dinner neatly stacking his dishes.
  • Just as she's done with Tohru, Laura Bailey provides Sana with an wide assortment of squeaks, shrieks, screams, and squeals for the English dub.
    • There's also Akito, who's voiced by Kyo's voice actor, Jerry Jewell, who makes it seem like Akito hit puberty very early.

     Season 1
  • "Episode 3 (Operation Eyeball Toothball)"
    • Every single one of Sana's attempts to take down Akito ends in an epic failure for the girl. But the funniest has to be when she challenges him to a test of nerve exploiting his acrophobia to see who screams more. Akito only lets out a tiny squeak when he bungees from the gym roof. You'd think Sana would be prepared, especially with her hyping up how scared of heights Akito is, but Sana explains that she is actually very good with heights, while forgetting that she's TERRIBLE at falling causing her to scream all throughout the gym as she bounces around, so loud that speaker in the gym is literally blown up and everyone's completely stunned, except for Akito who naturally just blows it off.
  • "Episode 4 (Lone Wolf, Awooo!)"
    • Gomi tries to take Akito's place as the class' boss monkey, but gets too cocky and lets his guard down. In the Japanese release, Sana is irritated by how Gomi callously mocks Akito for refusing to go against Sana's orders, but in the English dub, Gomi also makes the mistake of calling her stupid, which pisses her off so much that she allows Akito to take one shot at him. The end result was a brutal punch in the stomach that instantly knocks out Gomi, and Sana's response to this is:
  • "Episode 13 (My Name's Going to Change)"
    • In a fit of anger and resentment towards Tsuyoshi's dad, Akito shouts at him and calls him a "Bald-headed jerk!" and after being dared to do it again, plays it on repeat through Sana's norinori sampler (the same one used for most of Sana's rap songs) with the pitch fluctuating high and low. The scene ends with Akito being taken to Kyo-levels of anger while he and Tsuyoshi's dad both attempt to fight each other and Sana is forced to restrain Akito and leave the house.
  • "Episode 14 (The Promised Summer, Part 1)"
    • The episode introduces the school's cranky disciplinarian, Ms. Andoh, and the jolly principal Narunaru. If the former's ranting at Ms. Mitsuya and Mr. Tanaka for Sana and Akito sneaking into their sushi party didn't cement Ms. Andoh as a popular character, her hula session sealed it.
    • Sana's reaction when she realizes she's stuck under a cliff with the same boy who's previously kissed and groped her.
  • "Episode 18 (Two Hungry People Playing Hide and Seek)"
    • Akito flat-out calling Natsumi a bitch in the English dub just for exposing the sole picture of him in the family album, a baby photo of him wearing nothing but a diaper.
  • "Episode 21 (Look Out! It's a Pint-Sized Akito!)"
    • Not learning from her past mistake, Sana challenges Kou, aka the "mini Akito", to an even greater height than when she previously challenged Akito. Once again. she forgets that she's really bad at falling. She doesn't even let Kou go first, which along with his refusal the accept the challenge anyway, sets her up for failure.
  • "Episode 24 (Math Mess)"
    • Ms. Andoh's antics alone make the entirety of the episode. From the second she appears on screen, she pulls some ridiculously shady stuff while the principal is out of town, gleefully going behind his back to enforce a test upon class 3 (the classroom of the main cast) that covers all of the basic subjects. The kicker is that she claims to be doing it for the sake of the students. Hilarity Ensues throughout the whole episode.
    • Sana angrily chasing Akito with a mop for (in universe-time) over ten minutes straight before using their burutchas to tackle him. It's a new record according to Aya.
  • "Episode 26 (Every Chicken Has It's Day)"
    • Aono comes home to greet her brother and gets excited when she sees Aya and Sana. Akito then points at himself for him to be acknowledged before Aono brushes him off with a "yeah, hi Akito" and pushes him to the side.
    • After Tsuyoshi tells Aono that Piyoko can't live with them anymore, Akito butts in, says he doesn't see the big deal, and nearly blurts out that the chicken didn't hatch from Aono's egg. The English dub words it as if he's going into a more descriptive and obscene term of where the chicken would hatch from. It only takes him a second before being clobbered by Sana and Aya. Akito just doesn't have a filter, even when around a 7-year old girl.
    • Misako being driven to insanity from Piyoko's routine crowing each morning, including her Big "SHUT UP!" moment.
    • Among the many attempts to deal with Piyoko and the Kurata household's dwindling sanity? Just have the rooster marry Zenjiro on live television!
  • "Episode 28 (The Romantic Love Song of Mr. Hayama)"
    • Once Sana's initial plan to drive away Fuyuki's new "girlfriend" goes south, Sana prepares a new song; "He's Some Weirdo, That Mr. Hayama", obliviously addresses Fuyuki and hands him a sampler. Cue a rap duet between the two with Sana frozen in shock finally realizing he's home halfway into the song, and Fuyuki rapping away.
    • Immediately afterwards, Natsumi confronts her father and tells him that it's way too soon to think about getting married. Fuyuki thinks she's talking about herself and tells her that she's still in the 9th grade and shouldn't be thinking about that right now. Once Natsumi notes that she meant Fuyuki's marriage, he proceeds to explain that he didn't rush anything and was 24 when he married Koharu after being engaged for a year. Sana, of all people, has to be the one to clear everything up, and it turns out that Fuyuki never realized Sana was in the house despite rapping with her just a minute earlier. Sana's not the only one who's oblivious!
  • "Episode 30 (Rei and the Jolly Green-Eyed Monster)"
    • Aya's reaction to hearing that Tsuyoshi's a fan of Asako. She randomly punches a desk in half before questioning him and casually kicks it to oblivion afterward. Sana, Hisae, and Mami's shocked expressions sell the scene.
  • "Episode 33 (Love Tastes Like Curry)"
    • This episode is arguably among the series' funniest, just given how unbelievable the situation is. The fact that two lovers, let alone teachers go out of their way to spite each other and willingly bring their students into the mess and creating a boys vs girls war is an absurdity in itself.
    • Sana's fast-paced and long-winded rant towards Akito, where he tells her to shut up and she doesn't even respond to it and continues with her rant until seven seconds later.
    • The melodramatic tension of Tsuyoshi and Aya being split apart by the "war".
    • Probably so he doesn't get reminded of his past behavior, Akito doesn't even bother to join in which somehow enrages Sana more than if he were to take the boys' side. He appears in bits and pieces of the episode commenting on how stupid the whole thing is, yet like the other boys, not helping with the cleaning responsibilities.
    • Ms. Andoh's back, and she's not taking any sides, except Zenjiro's who she's somehow fallen in love with sometime after episode 14's hula competition.
    • Knowing Sana rarely ever listens to her advice when she offers it, Misako charges her 10 yen for advice for her situation. When she wraps it up, Sana immediately asks for a refund.
    • Sana tries to cheat during the rage game by once again using her and Akito's burutchas to screw Akito over. Akito remembers that he can do the same thing and uses his burutcha to make Sana fall into the ditch, thus securing a victory.
    • The following exchange:
Zenjiro: Okay, it's the young man who sent us the postcard and his teacher, Mr. Tanaka against former lady love Ms. Mitsuya and this young lady, miss ehh..
Tsuyoshi: Her name is Aya, sir.
    Zenjiro: Yeah, whatever..
  • "Episode 38 (The Special Christmas Kiss)"
    • What's one of the things that Akito tells Tsuyoshi that he's considering buying Sana for Christmas? A new bra, dead serious and complete with a straight face. Either he's completely desperate, or he clearly has No Social Skills.
    • Akito then bluntly asks Natsumi if she's ever been kissed. Her sudden reaction to the question sells the joke.
    • With Zenjiro alone on Christmas Eve, he stumbles across the contact info of a woman named Sumire and agrees to go on a date with her. It turns out that it's Ms. Andoh, who already has the hots for Zenjiro and instantly turns the date into a limbo party.
    • As we see her watching Sana and her friends through the window, Misako has managed to fit an entire Christmas tree on her head which is almost as tall as the house, all while Maro has his own Christmas tree and presents on there. She even stumbles a bit because it's so heavy!
    • In a moment of instant karma, Gomi is shown throwing a snowball at someone and instantly gets bombarded with the heavy snow sitting on the tree he was under.

  • "Episode 45 (Bittersweet Valentine's Day)"
    • Sana fails to catch on that Hisae likes a tennis player and thinks she just wants to play tennis.
    • Everyone's reaction to the fact that Sana's only giving chocolate to Takeshi, all taking place on the day before Valentine's Day.
      • Sana tells Rei that he'll have to get one from Asako this year, and since Asako's been busy with her career, he's pretty much out of luck.
      • Gomi and the other boys sulk during class at the fact that they haven't gotten a single piece of chocolate. They believe Sana will come to their rescue but she also doesn't want to risk a repeat of the Valentine's Day fiasco that made Tsuyoshi fall for her the previous year and they all angrily pummel him to the ground. They're eventually relieved and in tears when Sana changes her mind the next day.
      • Zenjiro still expects some chocolatey treats and has even prepared for five dentist appointments for when his teeth rot.
      • Naozumi acts out encountering Sana before actually meeting her at the door. When she shows up, right before he can even finish his first sentence, she explains everything much to his horror. He then prepares to play his trumpet before Rei takes it and tearily starts playing it himself.
    • Hisae's reaction upon finding out that the tennis player she likes is a girl.
    • Akito makes a smug smile when Sana starts throwing chocolates, but as soon as he tastes one, his face turns into disgust. as it's either not his favorite type, or it's a bad piece.
    • There's also a rare post-credits sequence showing the aftermath of Zenjiro's Valentine's Day, piled up with packages of everything but chocolate, including dried fish and eggplants. Sanekichi even comes in to deliver one last package a fan sent, Tofu dogs and sushi (or natto and fermanted carp in the original release).
