    Fridge Logic
  • Dragons have spears, chainmail, and amulets. Yet they look at scavenger 'claws' and don't think that maybe, just maybe, these little guys know how to forge weapons, too.
    • Clearly they just assume they stole them from some D&D miniatures of them... But seriously, they probably don't care to consider what their food does. (Protagonists and mindreaders excluded)
      • A better explanation would be that an animus dragon enchanted all dragons to think of scavengers as puny prey or unintelligent animals, despite many references to the Scorching. But that explanation isn't in the books. Counterargument: RainWings do not consider scavengers or any creature as prey as they are fruit eaters and some of the other dragons keep scavengers as pets, so it would make sense if there was a small group of dragons (even non-RainWing dragons) who believed strongly in scavenger rights. Yet they do not exist.
      • That is wrong as of book 10, as Osprey mentions "Save Our Scavengers" in the same tone as "Igunas Are Dragons, Too". To the point, your argument is wrong.
      • What about Winter? he certainly sees them as intelligent.
  • How did Scarlet get so far away from her palace while chasing a scavenger who had stolen some of her treasure? Why would she let it get that far away? To find the protagonists, of course.
  • The entire premise of the first arc is around the idea that the prophecy is fake and that the NightWings desperately need to make that prophecy a reality or else their entire tribe will be destroyed by an active volcano. So why did they leave the prophecy to a bunch of dragons that they consider inferior and only manipulate the situation from afar when they have plenty of assassins to run around and do secret things for them?
    • NightWings are emphasized to be intelligent individuals who study the world using the scientific method and are able to calculate the odds of the laying of a very rare egg during a rare once-every-two-thousand-years astrological event, as well as predict said event. How then can they not think of contingencies for said plans in the off chance that the plan fails?
      • On top of that, they had an all powerful magic dragon with which to create said back-up plans with, someone they had working on a magic tunnel that connected to points on the planet that were across a great ocean. An argument could be made that they were afraid of that magic corrupting the soul but later books prove that this is not true. In which case, how did a community of scientifically inclined dragons with a magic dragon not figure out the truth about the soul not really getting corrupted or come up with a spell that would prevent said supposed corruption in the first place?
      • You could make an argument about the NightWings' ego making them blind to some things but they had two thousand years to scientifically prove it one way or the other. Two thousand years for a legend to become a myth and for them to forget old fears for the sake of scientific pursuit and academia.
      • And all of this could have happened before their island volcano erupted.
  • The False Prophecy Dragonets are not a good back up plan in case the first batch failed but a last minute and desperate bid to make the prophecy come true because the real Dragonets of Destiny turned out to be a massive disappointment to the NightWings. This could have been avoided if the NightWings had simply raised their own batch of Dragonets of Destiny themselves and in secrecy, something which was completely within their means to do, especially considering they had been sneaking around, killing dragons, and convincing dragons of their lies since long before they made up the Prophecy that said the dragonets would be important to stopping the war. This is especially bad considering the dragon that went to steal an egg from the SkyWing Kingdom was a bright white dragon and their enemies in the current, ongoing war.
    • On top of that, the Talons of Powers were the ones who supplied dragonets for both sets of Dragonets. Why would they give the NightWings more dragonets when the first batch is still alive and well and currently known by the larger world? The series does have its fair share of abusive parents, but these parents are shown to actually care for their dragonets (at least, everyone except the MudWings) and so why would they give up said dragonets when the first batch is already doing so well? Any explanation given would either be fan supposition or too late in the story considering the two dragons involved with all the secret plannings and also pulling all the strings in this was blown up in a volcanic eruption. Nice.
  • Why did the NightWings think it was a good idea to have a prophecy be about dragonets from another tribe? If they really wanted to sell their tribe as magic and all-powerful and all-knowing, simply making a prophecy about a NightWing dragonet that would save the world by picking the next SandWing queen would have prevented all their current problems with this half-baked plan about all these stranger's dragonets.
  • The SkyWings are at war with the IceWings yet the Talons of Power think it's a good idea to send an IceWing, their one and only IceWing, on a mission to the SkyWing Kingdom to steal one of their eggs.
  • Why didn't the NightWings just have Stonemover make a habitable home for them? Be a lot simpler (and arguably cooler) than invading a rainforest.
    • Stonemover was probably scared of losing his soul, as doing something that big would've been very risky. And this is Stonemover we're talking about.
      • What about before Stonemover even made the tunnel into the Rain Forest - aka before he started worrying about his soul and decided to leave the NightWings in order to save it? From what Thorn tells us, Stonemover was a regular nice guy before he became distant and mean which eventually resulted in him running away and casting the stone spell on himself. So there was plenty of time for the NightWings to wake up and realize making NightWings immune to volcanic ash or creating an island paradise would have been a better option than trying to take over a poison jungle.

    Fridge Brilliance
  • Sunny narrates that fire-breathing feels like swallowing a sun, and she finds that uncomfortable. Well, she is half NightWing.
    • Furthermore, she can breathe fires small enough to weaken a door, which Thorn can't do. This makes sense for several reasons- Sunny is much smaller, she lived in close confines for all of her childhood (where big fires would have suffocated her, so she naturally learned to avoid them) and her aforementioned ancestry. Nightwings can breathe fire too, but it's highly unlikely theirs would be as big as those of the heat-exuding SandWings.
  • The IceWings are pretty important to the war, making up almost the entirety of Blaze's allies, so why wouldn't there be an IceWing dragonet in the prophecy? Because the NightWings have hated them specifically for centuries, even more than they look down on other tribes.
    • The prophecy also specifically calls for a MudWing egg "the color of dragon blood", i.e. red. IceWings are the only tribe not to have red blood. It's very subtle, but this could be seen as the NightWings unpersoning them.
  • In the third arc, we meet a section of the Chrysalis, a rebellion group of Silkwings...only to find they have very few members in the Hive they're in (less than ten). Of course they do, it's the Jewel Hive! The Silkwings are shown to be treated well there, almost like equals at some times. Of course not many are that interested in joining a rebellion group.
  • In chapter 9 of Darkness of Dragons Qibli asks "Bog" a gotcha question by asking who his sibs are; "Bog" gets confused because he doesn't know what sibs are (because he's a RainWing) but how would Qibli know what sibs are? because the reason why Jade Mountain was founded was so that dragons from over tribes could learn to accept each other so learning about each other's culture would be top-priority for the students.
  • Thorn is actually the optimal choice to hold the Eye of Onyx and be Sandwing Queen because she's a blend of the three princesses! She has each of their best qualities. Burn? Thorn can certainly hold her own in a fight, so if anyone challenges her, she'll last long enough. Blister? Thorn possesses cleverness worthy of a leader, as demonstrated when she explained to Sunny the diplomatic benefits of a feast. Blaze? She has the diplomacy and compassion towards her people that balances the other two qualities out. In short, Sunny couldn't have chosen a better queen than her own mother.
  • There's a certain poetic justice to Scarlet being killed by Tourmaline during their duel. Bear in mind that one of Scarlet's many transgressions was unknowingly (let's hope) dooming Gill to fight and be killed by his own daughter. How fitting that Scarlet's death come down to just that: fighting her own daughter, only to die by Neck Snap.
  • In the Graphic Novelization of "The Dragonet Prophecy", Clay's dreams are actually prophetic of what's to come in the first arc.
    • Sunny crying for help in Burn's stronghold in her menagerie of oddities: she actually does end up there, if as a willing hostage.
    • A dragon skeleton pins down Starflight claiming he can't read minds at all: the nightwings are later revealed to (presently) lack their famed mind powers, leading to the logical conclusion that Morrowseer can't see the future and therefore made up the prophecy. Also, the NightWing skeleton could've been prophetic of Morrowseer's death.
    • Another skeleton dragon in a lab coat drugs Glory with a sleeping potion: Mastermind (a scientist) is experimenting on the kidnapped rainwings (and Glory does end up kidnapped herself).
    • Tsunami is speared through the heart as she defiantly declares to a smug Scarlet she won't stop fighting: while not to the same deadly degree as the dream, Tsunami's heart is broken when she learns her Action Girl tendencies unwittingly killed her father, prompted in an attempt to prove to Scarlet she had the guts to kill.
    • Kestrel is stabbed to death by Scarlet: She indeed is stabbed through the throat, but rather than Scarlet, she's killed by another cruel ruthless member of royalty, Blister.
  • Scarlet being Burn's prisoner seems arbitrary and out of nowhere. What good would it do to imprison one of your allies? But then it dawns on one: Scarlet was being kept prisoner in Burn's tower of weird oddities! And remember, Scarlet had recently been disfigured by Glory's venom. So for all intents and purposes, Burn decided to "collect" Scarlet. As twisted as it is, at least one can now say there's a method to Burn's madness.
  • The Guide to the Dragons of Pyrrhia mentions that IceWings are unfazed by bright lights, but this hardly ever comes up in-story. This is probably to protect them from snow blindness, a real phenomenon where sunlight reflected off pure-white snow damages one's eyes.

    Fridge Horror
  • Scavengers are seen as prey by most dragons. It's very likely some of the protagonists—maybe even Sunny—may have eaten humans.
    • Mostly Jossed considering everyone but Starflight notes that this is their first time seeing one.
  • It’s a good thing Glory was able to use her newfound venom spitting with 100% accuracy or she might have missed and hit Clay.
  • If Arctic hadn’t previously created protection from animus magic, he would be dead. For him this might be a Mercy Kill considering what happens later, but there would be virtually nothing stopping Darkstalker.
  • So Winter finally finds a guide to the Night kingdom to avert the prophecy and... wait, didn’t Darkstalker set up an IceWing killing barrier around the night kingdom? Keeping that in mind, it’s a good thing they don’t try to use the scroll to find the night kingdom, And that Winter doesn’t follow Darkstalker to the night kingdom, AND that Qibli stops him from enlisting Darkstalker’s aid at the night kingdom. How the heck did Winter survive this series?!
  • Considering Vulture had the obsidian mirror, it’s sheer luck he wasn’t looking when Qibli and co. had Darkstalker's scroll, it’s actually a good thing the scroll was destroyed or Vulture would have it
  • If Burn managed to convince the Mudwings to attempt their massive attack on the Ice kingdom, the Ice kingdom barrier would kill them
  • Good thing the Dragonets decide on dream-visiting Blaze instead of sending Deathbringer or a Rainwing, that Ice Kingdom barrier would have killed them.
  • It is quite likely that in the "perfect" future Darkstalker tries to tempt Qibli with, Moonwatcher was brainwashed into accepting Darkstalker's rule, and maybe even marrying Qibli. In later chapters, she says outright that she would never do the former, and we all know how Darkstalker solves little problems like that...
    • So...
    • Fridge Brilliance building on the latter when you consider that this involves forcing Moon to choose Qibli over Winter (An IceWing).
      • Hopefully he didn't do it already. She has no reason to assume her love is being chosen for her, and no reason to wear that Darkstalker-spellproof earring anymore...
  • The Othermind is actually like The Thing (1982) in more ways than one. It can assimilate minds, spreads by getting in one's system, and (as a plant) dislikes fire. Much like the Thing, it could easily assimilate all life on the planet in a very short amount of time. Unlike the Thing, the Othermind is blatantly evil.
  • It is very possible that Carnelian and/or Bigtail survived the explosion inside the history cave, but then burned to death when Peril tried to pull them out.
