Fridge / The Odd Life of Timothy Green

Go To

Fridge Brilliance

  • Cindy's boss coming to Timothy's defense when he tries to speak up about the leaf pencil doesn't make much sense, given their...previous encounter. But then you consider the trait Timothy displayed in the incident where he drew her - she knew that he was honest to a fault.
  • Also mixes with a touch of Fridge Horror: Before the big game, Timothy's coach says he "won't live to see his next birthday" if he puts him in the game. Timothy eventually scoring a goal in the game (for the other team) is what causes him to lose one of his leaves, which he gives to the coach. And when the leaves go...
  • The exaggeration of how awful every adult who isn't Jim or Cindy is portrayed makes sense when you remember the framing device—Unreliable Narrator may well be in play.

Fridge Horror

  • Cindy's own sister is so unusually cruel to her, mocking Tim and bragging about how great her kids are. Just makes you wonder: How long has she been like this? When did it start? Why doesn't Cindy appear more offended than she should? Why is she disgusted by this thing called "love"?!!
  • The Greens are gifted with their ideal child who is sweet, kind, loving, and warm. And they still make many horrible parenting decisions. With an actual child who will not be as pure and good as Timothy, it's actually frightening to think how inept and unprepared they'll turn out to be.

Fridge Logic

  • How come none of the other teammates or Coach Cal did anything to stop Timmy from scoring for the other team? With an entire soccer field between the two goals, methinks it would become obvious at a certain point that he's not aiming where he's supposed to be.
  • Apparently, making pencils from leaves will save trees. Leaves still come from trees and plants in general, so...
    • Wasn't the saving grace that they made the pencils using dead leaves that had already fallen off the trees? Leaves grow back naturally each and every year.
