  • A fairly common criticism of the series is that almost every single superhero in the setting is either a jerk or otherwise not well-adjusted, which begs the question of why they're even considered heroes to begin with. The one exception is Love Sausage, who was once an honest, well-respected superhero in his home country of Russia, and is a great guy to be friends with. But Love Sausage wasn't created by Vought-American, unlike all the other superheroes in the series. And since Vought-American is essentially the ultimate form of Incompetence, Inc., of course their superheroes would turn out defective, just like everything else they made. Love Sausage is able to be a truly heroic superhero— something otherwise unheard of in this world— because he wasn't created by Vought-American.
    • This is additionally reinforced by Super Duper, who are morally good, idealistic and helpful as far as they are able at least. They are tied to V.A. but have been ignored by them as being "Defective products" and as such are not corrupted by the company’s incompetent personal raising of heroes and corruption from hedonisms, riches and popularity they lavish their supers with. Auntie Sis is a viable and useful superhero candidate but her stubbornly unwavering "attitude" to do good makes her useless to Vought outside of being a willing volunteer to raise their rejects.
