Imogene plays Mary in the Christmas pageant and portrays her as ready to pummel anyone who gets too close to baby Jesus. At first this sounds like Imogene just being Imogene, but it makes perfect sense in the context of the story. After Jesus was born, Herod tried to kill him because he thought the new "king of the Jews" would try to take over his throne, forcing his parents to flee with him to Egypt to escape the massacre of the baby boys in Bethlehem. Under those circumstances, of course Mary would be fiercely protective of her baby!
