The Boo Brothers eating like maniacs makes a lot more sense once you learn they're orphans.
Sheriff Buzby only threatening to give Billy Bob tickets instead of trying to arrest him makes a lot more sense when you realize that, because he isn't really the sheriff, Buzby would be in a real jam if he did arrest Billy Bob and then showed up at the jail with him. Also, it would take Buzby away from the mansion and keep him from interfering with the treasure hunt.
Scooby and Shaggy could easily have never been found in the secret passage. What if the Boo Brothers didn't find them in the passage and hit the key? Scooby and Shaggy would have likely died from lack of water.
