Fridge Brilliance:

  • Isla having only 83 days left to live might seem like a random number at first. However, this is the same amount of days between the second episode and the end of the Spring cour, right about when the show reaches Episode 13. It seems that Dogakobo is savvy with their scheduling...
  • One comic scene from Episode 8 that received mixed reaction was Eru reuniting with Olivia/Andie and being fixated on the Giftia's breasts. While that particular scene isn't very funny to watch, it drives home that any previous memories Andie had with her friend were gone. This also means that Eru's reunion also lost any comic effect to the episode as well. And once Eru reflects on how Andie has lost her memories, what was supposed to be a humorously awkward scene ends up as tragically empty.
  • If you look at the Human-Giftia pairings in the Terminal Service Department closely, you will notice that each pairing has unique dynamics in their relationship. Yasutaka and Sherry behave like an old married couple, with Yasutaka acting like an irresponsible husband and Sherry being similar to a responsible wife. Michiru is practically Zack's older sister, complete with the two having constant arguments over the littlest of things. And last, but not least, Tsukasa and Isla act like they are in a rom-com.
  • With Giftia being programmed for different jobs, it is safe to say that each android was initially developed as an intelligent labor force that would remain content and dedicated to their work throughout their lifetimes. While they do their jobs such as raising kids, engineering, or acting as bodyguards, however, their human-like behavior and charm makes them especially attractive companions for humans. Similar to pets such as dogs, a Giftia is more likely to be adopted as a human's loyal companion than for their initial functions.
  • Constance uses his hourglass to precisely calculate the time to brew tea for his human partner and himself. If you think about it, though, it is also the perfect image for the show's motif of time and acceptance of recognizing when one time's up. It seems that Constance is aware of his limited time on Earth.
  • Michiru's gift to Isla and Tsukasa in Episode 12 was a pair of tickets to a film named Pygmalion. In Greek mythology, Pygmalion was a Cypriot sculptor who fell in love with a marble statue he carved. After he prayed to Aphrodite (the Greek goddess of love), the statue turned into a real woman, Galatea. As seen with Isla and Tsukasa, this myth perfectly parallels with a romantic relationship between a human and a Giftia, as love can transform a Giftia from an artificially-made worker into a genuine companion.

Fridge Horror:

  • Though a relationship between a human and Giftia seems okay at first glance, in the long run that's probably not a good thing for the human race. While it will probably be okay for a while, or if it's really limited to a small group of people, if too many people start having relationships with Giftia rather than other people, eventually humanity will be wiped out due to not enough babies being born. Japan in particular already has a declining birth rate, so Giftia would only exacerbate this problem.
  • Giftia have been seen working in numerous jobs and their dedication and skill to those jobs are particularly appealing to employers. This is bad news for people living in countries struggling with high unemployment rates, as it means that even more people might be pushed out of a job in favor of androids that would likely perform whatever they were ordered to do in a superior fashion and (presumably) for less pay.
  • More of a Fridge Tear Jerker, but Isla pointed out in the final episode that Tsukasa's been holding back his tears and states that he always smiles because he's depressed. One has to wonder just how much worse his depression is going to get, given that he had to terminate his Giftia lover in the gondola. Worse still, is he going to view his new Giftia partner (implied to be a Giftia using Isla's body) as a Replacement Goldfish and, if so, how is that going to affect his working relationship with the new Giftia?
