Fridge / Penn & Teller

Go To

Fridge Brilliance: Although Teller has given reasons why he chooses not to speak during shows and performances, note  if you want a possible in-character reason why Teller doesn't talk, think about this: Most of the time Teller does speak in a show, he tends to say something that gets bleeped by the censors. Clearly, Teller has a potty mouth, and by remaining mute, Teller is actually censoring himself.

  • Jossed by any conversation someone has with him outside stage, and otherwise...he is incredibly smart. IN CHARACTER Teller may be a pottymouth, however.

Fridge Horror: Re-watching the duo's water tank trick on Saturday Night Live feels like this after learning that Teller nearly drowned near the end of the act.

  • Especially when you imagine him holding his breath in front of an audience who thought he was just playing dead.
  • This specific brand of Fridge Horror doesn't seem to be lost on Penn and Teller themselves, either.
    • Penn & Teller Get Killed, which they co-wrote, revolves around an escalating series of pranks that ends with Teller accidentally killing Penn. Penn's in-movie girlfriend Carlotta starts laughing, assuming the joke is now being turned around on her. Teller then also starts laughing, assuming Penn and Carlotta swapped his real gun for a fake one. Then he fires the gun again, and they both realize it's real and Penn is actually dead. In their shock and devastation, Teller shoots himself, and Carlotta jumps out the window. The first two people who find the awful scene are one of the prank participants and his friend, and at first they assume it's an extension of the joke. Then they realize, in horror, that it's real.
    • In the short film & Teller, co-written by Teller, a zombie plague has hit Las Vegas. Teller's narration reveals that he had to shoot a zombified Penn, on stage, with one of the guns they use for their bullet catch trick.
"The audience clapped. They thought it was part of the show."
