Fridge / Peacemaker (2022)

Remember that spoilers are unmarked in Headscratchers and Fridge!

Fridge Brilliance:

  • Of course Bat-Mite has been sighted in the DCEU. As an interdimensional being, he exists outside the Multiverse and can step into any world at any time on a whim.
  • Likewise, beyond being a silly shout-out, it makes some degree of sense that Matter-Eater Lad exists and has worked with Peacemaker—after all, there's a precedent for this occurring, considering that TDK (based on Arm-Fall-Off Boy, another character associated with the Legion of Superheroes) was also on the Suicide Squad.
  • Why did they change Vigilante's background? Well, the original background of a District Attorney who kills people who 'got off on a technicality' is... rather problematic in a post-George Floyd world. By removing the sympathetic background, they emphasize this is someone who kills people as judge, jury, and executioner. It also creates a good contrast to Peacemaker, as a Replacement Flat Character.
  • The opening credits' choreography, with the deadpan expressions and the stilted movements deliberately replicating marionettes and claymation, is a perfect foreshadowing for the main threat being the Butterflies.
  • Reckless Love's "Monster," which plays when Goff (as Sophie) calls the rest of the Butterflies and takes over the Evergreen police force, is not only an amazingly appropriate Villain Song for both her and the White Dragon, but it also ties in nicely when you remember that the name of the song's album is called InVader. The lyrics are also equally fitting, too:
Bleeding stitches on the fresh cut wounds
I can feel her needle sting
    And behind the evil grin
    Beautiful like a bad tattoo
    Looking like a mortal sin
    A lady, unnatural and shady
  • When Vigilante is trying to learn Goff's favorite color, his first guess is teal, which Peacemaker finds odd. While Vigilante's costume is described by characters as having blue highlights, they're actually teal.
  • Vigilante is fiercely against being admitted to the hospital, because his gunshot wounds have to be reported to the police, which incidentally explains how he's stayed under the radar for this long. The ending reveals that he was treated without incident, and even escapes the hospital - because the police department is in shambles after practically all of them were possessed by Butterflies.
  • Waller didn't plant the diary to discredit Peacemaker regarding Operation Butterfly. It was intended to discredit him for Operation Starfish and the events of The Suicide Squad, where Waller sent in the team to cover up a US Government bioweapon project and he killed Flag on her orders.

Fridge Horror:

  • Adebayo seems noble for revealing to the world that her mom, Amanda Waller, is responsible for creating Task Force X and disclosing that she's her daughter, but she doesn't seem to realize quite how many enemies her mother has. By revealing her identity, she's put gigantic targets on her and her wife's backs. How long will it take for Amanda's enemies to take full advantage of this knowledge?
  • Near as we can tell, every cop in Charlton PD is dead due to the events of the show, leaving the county under the guardianship of two wanted felons and their tiny, three-person support team. While the local jail's inhabitants and the nearby white supremacists are also dead, one of the would-be protectors is hallucinating dead people, and the other guns down children and graffiti artists with joy.
