  • This YouTube comment under Octavia's theme analyzing the lyrics and how it ties back to the oni sisters' story:
markaris8405: ...Here in Thousand Absolutes, it's made very clear just how obsessed Octavia is with perfection, and how desperate she is to achieve her "ideal," her "ceiling" or Peak that's so far out of reach it can only be described as "high up in space." And with lines like "l'm creating equations with no separation there's no recreation, ""It's harder to breathe, there's no heart on my sleeve," "I gotta speed write by starlight," and "I won't be replaced,' you can tell she's pushing away all other facets of her life and going through tremendous suffering to try and get there.
Based on their story, it seemed Octavia wanted Vyce to be "perfect" too, and after her rebelious nature lashed back out, her complaints became the "words [that] fade amidst odd numbers." Imperfections and distractions, doomed to be drowned out by Octavia's "thoughts" and "design. But therein is the paradox and inner-conflict of Octavia's character. In her chase for prefection after "seeing" what she calls a "thousand absolutes"-that is, the things, goals, and designs of perfect exactness that she wants to derive her life's meaning from Octavia has ruined the relationship she had with her sister. In striving for perfection, she had achieved an imperfection.
So Octavia tries to cover for this paradox with apathy. "There's no heart on my sleeve." She pushes Vyce away and leaves her behind. However, despite how hard she tried to keep Vyce's words from interfering with her feelings, the line "Your words are killing me" that sneaks in leads me to believe she's not entirely successful at entirely drowning them out. She begs Vyce to "set her free," to leave her alone so that she can focus on achieving her dreams. But as their story describes, Octavia, despite being commercially successful, is never able to reach her ideal. She's never satisfied with her own music, and it always feels like something is missing. Her "thousand absolutes" are "collapsing."

  • If Rasmus' experimentation on Nao's father caused him to suffer Death of Personality, then what's gonna happen to Kazan's sister, should Rasmus ever get around to "curing" her?
