Fridge / Kikai Sentai Zenkaiger

Go To

Fridge Brilliance

  • Zenkaizer being based on the Varidorin makes sense; the Gorenger didn't have any humanoid-looking mecha, so he's actually an Anthropomorphic Personification of the aforementioned aircraft itself in the shape of a Goranger.
  • The numbers of Zenkaizer's Kikainoid teammates, Juran (16), Gaon (25), Magine (29), and Vroon (30), form a round 100.
  • Juran and Gaon's bickering is appropriate keeping in mind they have the appearance of a Tyrannosaurus rex and a lion, that is the kings of the ancient and modern animal kingdoms respectively.
  • Why do only Zenkaizer and Juran transform and fight in the first episode instead of all five Zenkaigers? Because they're based on the first Super Sentai and Power Rangers team respectively.
  • There are some things that relates Juran and old age:
    • He is the only Kikainoid Zenkaiger to be based on a 90s mecha (Daizyujin).
    • His voice actor, Shintarō Asanuma, is the oldest voice actor among the Kikainoid Zenkaigers' voice actors. (He's also the oldest one amongst the Zenkaigers as a whole.) note
    • His suit actor, Yasuhiro Takeuchi, is the oldest suit actor among the Zenkaigers' suit actors. note
  • The first sentai gears used:
    • Zenkaizer and Zenkai Juran used the Sentai Gears 40 and 39 respectively, and it makes sense. Zenkaizer is based on the Valdorin aircraft so of course he gets the power to fly. Meanwhile, Ninninger actualy had a dino mecha in the form of Dinomaru, so it's not out of place for Juran to use Ninninger's power.
    • Zyuohger is an anniversary season for Sentai, so of course it would be used in the premiere. Ninninger was also technically an anniversary season given it (would have) aired 40 years from Goranger's first episode, and its Power Rangers counterpart was an anniversary season.
  • The Kikainoid Zenkaigers actually have black visors; however due to them being robots their glowing eyes shine through their visors, giving their Ranger forms a pair of eyes as a result.
  • Zenkaizer's helmet visor having dozens of dots on it is a very neat callback to the era when Sentai helmets had small holes in the visor to allow the suit actors to see, with the Gorangers he's based on being prominent examples of that concept at work.
  • Episode 2’s used Sentai Gears being 6 and 26 may seem random, but both have one thing in common: villains using giant versions of the smaller monsters, rather than straight up growing them, much like the Kudaitests.
  • It seems odd at first that the Kikainoids, which come from another world, are somehow more familiar with the idea of an Ice Age than the Token Human. How do we know that that's not the reason their home dimension has no organic life?
  • ZenkaiJuran is equipped with a small shield, or rather, a dino-buckler.
  • The Zenkai-Oh forms make a lot of sense when you think about them. JuraGaon and VrooMagine are the 'proper' mixes because Dinosaurs are ancient animals, and Vroon and Magine are based on Sentai that are right after the other. The Mixed combinations also make sense because mixing animals and vehicles are a Sentai staple and Magic and Ancient Animals work well together, plus dinosaurs where first considered Dragons so JuraMagine is made from two kinds of dragons!
  • It's a minor detail, but episode 8 has the four Kikainoids sent across the world (going as far as Africa, Antarctica and Europe) via a random Portal Network, before Cutting the Knot and returning to Japan physically without using doors - and the locations they pass through (Asia and Oceania in general) really are closer to Japan. Bonus points for Juran passing through China after leaving India, and Vroon passing Australia after leaving Antarctica, which all lines up geographically.
    • Magine being able to fly would make crossing America to reach Japan from Africa more practical than heading the other way and cutting across the Asian continent (she's probably worried about Russian climate).
  • The first five Sentai that the Zenkaiger opening references are Goranger, Zyuranger, Gaoranger, Magiranger, and Boukenger, which are the teams that the core Zenkaigers are based on.
  • Episode 12 sees Twokaizer use Sentai Gear #13 (Kousoku Sentai Turboranger), a series that didn't have an official sixth ranger. However, Turboranger did have a technical sixth ranger in the form of Kenichi Yamada, a fellow student of the team that transformed into Blue Turbo in episode 43 of the series, thus why a second Blue Turbo appeared when Twokaizer uses the Gear.
  • Gear #13 (Kousoku Sentai Turboranger) provides Super-Speed, which is odd considering the Turborangers didn't have such an ability their series. It turns out it was highly implied that Flint modified the Gear to instead be based on Gokai Red's use of the Turborangers' powers, which did invoke Super-Speed.
    • Not really, it's just an ability Toei has slapped on them and other car-themed Sentai in post-series appearances.
  • Why was of all the Zenkaigers, Zocks was the only one who's transformation items get transformed by Retro Wald's retro waves? Because "Retro" here is 70's and 80's Nostalgia, and Sixth Rangers didn't become a mainstay until the 90's.
  • At first, there's seems no relation between Rikki and Cuttaner's theme (Ohranger & Shinkenger). Both the main mecha of two series have lion as torso. Also Masashi Goda played a ranger in those two series and become the color for Rikki and Cuttaner (OhBlue and Shinken Red).
    • It also allows for Zocks’s three seasons that he homages (Ohranger, Shinkenger and Gokaiger) to be from the same writers as the series that make up Gokai Silver’s power set (Zyuranger shares Noboru Sugimura with Ohranger, Timeranger Yasuko Kobayashi with Shinkenger and Abaranger and Gokaiger Naruhisa Arakawa.
      • It become even brilliance if you realize all Twokaiser's form are basically the 3 primary colors that were heavily used by many Sentai teams (Red, Blue, Yellow).
  • The events of the Zenkai Red special being a dream is hinted at early on with the fact that Normal Warumono Wald was created with the same Tojiru Gear as Super Warumono Wald, despite it being destroyed.
  • The Kamen Rider Gears the Zenkaigers use in Episode 20 (aside from Vroon) align with different traits they possess.
    • Zenkaizer and Kamen Rider Saber: Both Kaito and Touma are the protagonists of their respective series, with the both of them being positive Nice Guys.
    • Zenkai Juran and Kamen Rider Zi-O: They both use swords as their main weapon and are modeled after "kings". They are also the oldest of the bunch (Juran age-wise and Zi-O chronologically).
    • Zenkai Gaon and Kamen Rider Zero-One: The both of them have an animal motif as part of their design. They both strive to get along with a different race (Gaon with humans and animals, Aruto with robots) despite their differences.
  • One of the possible meanings of the word "zenkai" is "strength" or "power." So one way to read the title is "Machine Squadron Power Ranger".note
  • Any similarities between Hakaizer and the Kikanoid Zenkaigers make sense when one considers that his design was the prototype for all the Zenkaigers.
    • This also implies that Zenkaizer was always supposed to be the only human of the group, with the other Zenkaigers being (if not Kikanoids) robots designed by Kaito's parents.
  • Zenkaizer was always meant to have the Zenryoku Zenkai Cannon, so Zenryoku ZenkaiOh was always meant to be the team's default giant mecha, and ZenkaiOh may have been intentionally created as a backup for the Zenkaigers in case Zenryoku Eagle and/or Zenkaizer are out of commission.
  • To paraphrase what this tumblr post said, Hakaizer summons rangers of the same color because the Tojitendo are all about uniformity, emphasized by their identical troops and the Worlds having similar bodies, while Kaito summons rangers of multiple colors because he celebrates uniqueness, emphasized by the Zenkaigers themselves having a drastically different appearance from each other and their Sentai predecessors.
  • Why does Magiranger’s power up spell disintegrate the empowered Kudaiters? In spite of being a misstated spell, the actual spell initially gave the Ozu siblings too much power, which threatened to destroy their human bodies, turning them into Heavenly Saints, before Hikaru used a power limiting spell on them. The mission of the first word of the spell simply made that aspect instantaneous.
  • Might seem as Badass Boast when Magine tried her fortune telling after being cursed badly by Omikuji Wald and laughed at her "Super Duper Bad Luck", proclaiming it means she's actually "Super Duper Lucky", but that makes sense later into the episode: Since her fortune telling is accurate, just never in the direction she wants, that means she saw that Omikuji Wald would completely fail to defeat them and that Great Omikuji Wald's luck and powers would be taken from him in the middle of the fight. In other words, Omikuji Wald and Great Omikuji Wald were the ones that got the "Super Duper Bad Luck".
  • Setchan doesn't do his usual Previously on… at the start of the final episode, because he's lost his memories of the events of the series, so there's nothing for him to recap.
  • The final episode shows that all the freed worlds have become interconnected with each other, which provides a perfect excuse for future crossovers if following seasons take place in separated universes. By having interdimensional travel be possible, two teams from wildly different settings can interact without disrupting any prior continuity, since both would take place in different universes.
  • While Zenkaiger seems have a low amount of weapons, it make sense since the creators were gone before they could make more. Most of the arsenal that appears in the show were either planned beforehand or already finished before they vanished. The Geartlingers and the team's Sentai Gears were amongst these numbers, alongside the Kikainoid Zenkaigers' personal weapons. Zox and Flint found a blueprint of the Geardalinger, probably still a prototype that had been completed by Flint. The Zenkaijuu gear's blueprint were kept inside Secchan. The Zenryoku Zenkai Cannon was presumably still in the planning stage before Ijirude made it to the original specs. And it took until Isao Goshikida returned before the team finally received a new gear.
    • Even if the Zenkaigers need new weapons, the 44 legend Sentai Gears are shown to pack more than a punch. Some of the Gears are shown to be powerful. Zenkaiger also uses some gears with different abilities, hinting that sentai gear ability can be change depending on the situation.
  • Why did the Ijirudestroyer IV resemble the Battle Caesar Robo so much? Because the Battle Caesar Robo was confiscated after Stacy's betrayal, and Ijirude saw fit to make it his own.
  • The Kikainoid Zenkaigers' colors match their respective tribute head mechs in a way.
    • Juran, being red, represents Guardian Beast Tyrannosaurus in Daizyujin, who forms the head alongside the main body.
    • Gaon, being yellow, represents GaoEagle in GaoKing, who forms its head.
    • Magine, being pink, represents MagiFairy. While MagiFairy doesn't represent MagiKing's head, it does fit in as MagiDragon's head.
    • Vroon, being blue, represents GoGoGyro, which forms DaiBouken's helmet.

Fridge Horror

  • In episode 4, one of the Boxing Hate Plague infected is a surgeon in all his scrubs - did he just leave a patient in the middle of it? And possibly attack any assistants and other doctors on the way out? (Though the lack of blood on him would hint that the patient is still intact...)
  • Juran mentions in episode 5 that he didn't have a family back in Kikaitopia, emphasizing that it was normal for relatives to not be there. Whatever he's implying, it's definitely not good considering what the Tozitend already have done.
    • Apparently this is so common they don't even bother having family/last names, things even Pirates bother to have. But this rolls back to awesome, when we consider the Japanese order of names, so the Kikanoids probably consider Zenkai as a their family name, meaning they finally have a family again, and they are not going to let the Tozitend rip them apart as they did with their original one.
    • This also throws a very dark shadow over the apparently random revelation that Barashitara has had hundreds of wives - he probably left some of them, and outlived most of them. And there's the question of how that is...
  • The Goldtsuikers mention that they were originally from Kaizokutopia, which seems all fine and good... until one realizes that the Tozitend conquered all of the parallel worlds, implicitly including Kaizokutopia as well. Zocks's comments about needing to stay on the Zenkaigers' world for a while, as well as the others' reaction, are rather dark in retrospect.
