Fridge Brilliance

  • Archibald Von Grenier doesn't seem to make sense at first: he's obviously supposed to be from Germany (he has a German-sounding name, and Fred introduces him by stating he has been executed for helping the Nazis), yet he speaks with a British accent and is dressed like a British 19th century adventurer. This patchwork of backgrounds actually makes sense after the reveal at the end of his first episode: he's the cover identity of an alien. As foreigners don't necessarily have accurate idea of foreign cultures and history, no wonder an alien's attempt to forge a cover identity on Earth turns into something unplausible.
  • The mid-review sketch of Tomb Raider: Search for the Mysterious Green Dollar is a satire of Youtube monetization's policy. At the end of the video, the pirate's sudden death may seem like an Ass Pull to points out how random the policy looks: he picks up the Green Dollar (uploads a monetized video, metaphorically) and dies (either loses the monetization, gets his video deleted, or even gets his channel deleted) without doing anything special beside singing a single sentence, which wasn't rude or controversial ("Oh! Who did recover the Green Dollar?"). There's actually a reason behind this: the pirate song was set to the tune of the SpongeBob SquarePants opening credits. Use of copyrighted music is the main reason most of Joueur du Grenier videos lost the monetization...
  • Houses in the Harry Potter video:
    • In the Harry Potter franchise, Ravenclaw House favors intellect and learning, which means they are theorically the best in an academic setting (or think they are). In the mid-review sketch of the Harry Potter video, expies of the Hogwarts houses' names are a portmanteau combining the house's name in the French translation of Harry Potter and the name of a gaming system. Naming the Ravenclaw expy after PC is likely a subtle reference to the "Glorious PC Gaming Master Race" meme, merging two elitist communities as a single one. Also, the animal on their coat of arms is a mouse. In French, (living) mouse and computer mouse are the same word.
    • The animal on the Playstaypuff coat of arms is a chocobo. Chocobos are he mascot of the Final Fantasy franchise, the signature series of the various Playstation gaming systems. Also, Playstation gaming systems are very popular in France (the record being held by the Playstation 2), fitting their role as the expy of the average generic house.
    • The color scheme of the houses' coat of arms is related to both their Harry Potter counterparts and their gaming system mascot. Nintendor is the Gryffindor counterpart because red is the color of Nintendo's logo, Xboxrin is the Slytherin counterpart because green is the Xbox logo, and the colors of Playstaypuff and PCclaw (Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw) have been switched because blue is omnipresent in Playstation logos while yellow is the main color of the aforementioned "Glorious PC Gaming Master Race" meme.
