Also, he is presenting himself as working for the contractor company that was hired to fix the place up - greed would help blind the bank owners and managers into thinking "of course the manual laborers would smell like ass" and might encourage them not to investigate further since he's heading for the door.
It's clearly established there's running water towards where Russell hides for a few days. So he clearly can keep clean for a few days his armpits and, uhm... nether regions.
