Fridge / Final Fantasy III

Go To

For Fridge thoughts about the game originally released in North America as Final Fantasy III, see this page.

Fridge Brilliance:

  • Sasune's reverence of Red Mages makes sense considering the environment: They have a mine full of mythril (which, per Ishii is highly conductive towards magic) and they have a blacksmith who likely wasn't the only one in its history. Since Red Mages use both normal weapons and magic, it makes sense that they'd use a job that gives them access to both.
  • Xande's overall goal is to regain his immortality by stopping the flow of time. Final Fantasy III just so happens to be the only Nintendo-era game to have a dearth of Time Magic spells, with Haste being the only one. No wonder Xande had to turn to external means.

Fridge Horror:

  • It's said that, in the 3D remake's canon, time on the surface world was stopped for 1000 years while it's implied that time on the Floating Continent did not. Meaning that the people on the surface likely have no idea of the state of what became the Floating Continent. We also know that Cid had an air-taxi service at the time, meaning that travel to the region that would become the Floating Continent was not unlikely. Imagine having family or friends that lived in or were visiting Sasune, Argus, etc and suddenly one day, not only is the continent they were on suddenly floating, but they're gone with only what little evidence of them that would survive 1000 years, if any, remaining.
