The details of the photographs foreshadow how each of the characters will die but also where and how they will die. They just evoke Rewatch Bonus.
Jason's head in his picture is close to the rollercoaster and its tracks which is what kills him, and Carrie holding two stuffed toys which look like shoulder restraints with blurred light behind her. Even though Jason tries to get off the rollercoaster for Wendy's sake it is all in vain. It seems like Death's design for Jason and Carrie was always the rollercoaster.
Not only are both Ashley and Ashlyn oversaturated and look like they are burning in a fire in their picture, they are also holding a palm tree together. The logo of the Phoneix Tanning Salon.
The names too. Morbidly both Ashley and Ashlyn can be shorted to Ash and they meet their ends at Phoneix Tanning. And a Phoenix is a mythical bird associated with fire and rises from the ashes. Really on the nose, isn't it?
The fact they are also together when this photo is taken also alludes to the fact they are supposed to die together. Much like Erin and Ian who are also in the same picture together and Julie and Perry.
An obvious one but Wendy's saying, "I'm sorry I'm too late." She is referring to the fact she was too late to respond and join them at the salon. But it also serves as a double-meaning conversation. After their funeral, Wendy mentions she called to keep them both from going after seeing their picture. Doubles as a Tear Jerker and Wendy was already having a had time with control and felt guilty for not doing enough to save the other riders of the rollercoaster.
Frankie's death is definitely this, and the more you think about it the more details you pick up on.
It makes perfect sense his death clue was in the upskirting photo Kevin took rather than the one on his own that Wendy and Kevin were looking in the drive-through. Frankie is usually always seen perving around girls like Ashley and Ashlyn, and he even hid his own camera on the rollercoaster. Much like how the photo itself was also taken sneakily and was only discovered afterwards. It's also notable that Kevin was the one who took the picture. During the Rollercoaster ride, Frankie cuts in front of Wendy and Kevin and had some words with Kevin about it. As the runaway truck is coming down the hill. Kevin desperately beeps his horn and tries to get Frankie to move, just like he did on the rollercoaster. However, Frankie's refusal to move and act like a dick is what leads to his death. And the fact it was Kevin's car engine which took Frankie out in the end really seals it.
Kevin is also inadvertently responsible for even starting the chain of events in the first place, as he is seen earlier swerving out of the way of the same man in the truck who soon lost control of it. The whole reason is truck is going down the hill in the first place is because of Kevin and Wendy.
The truck is named Rolling Thunder which shares the same name as a rollercoaster in Six Flags.
It's also pointed out earlier in the film by Erin, that a rollercoaster is elemental physics, converting potential energy to kinetic energy. The same thing happens with the truck rolling down the hill.
Additionally, while it seems like Kevin and Wendy are in danger from the runaway truck and escape. It makes sense that they are even at a perceived threat from Death at that point, even though Frankie is the one that is next. Because they were originally supposed to be next after Ashley and Ashlyn until Frankie took their seats from them and they had to move into the back, which makes the fact that Frankie being rude to them even more brilliant as well.
Lewis's death. At the start of the film, Lewis is the one responsible for slamming the top of the head off from the Test Your Strength game. There are also a lot of details towards his death, such as the Sultan's Scimitars, which are not only the symbol of his team but also hang over Lewis when he is working out, but are not what ultimately kills him. That makes sense since in the picture they're only nearby Lewis. The scimitars and the stuffed bear (the symbol of the rival team) are just part of the chain reactions that will cause it. It's the weight that will kill Lewis and it's Lewis himself who is the direct cause of it.
Lewis also seems to want to be in control of his own life and disregards death. Made incredibly evident with his final words. Before that, he is also incredibly dismissive of Wendy's premonition and is insistent that he was the one responsible for saving himself. He was given a false assurance of victory in a sense, that he just cheated death with the swords. In fact, if Lewis just stopped and didn't pick up the weights one last time, he would've lived. Yet Lewis wanted to rub it in further to prove his control over his life. So the fact that he is the one who accidentally kills himself with the weights seems to be a twisted way in which Death grants him that wish.
Ian holding the gun near Erin's face in the picture. Some tropers have already mentioned in the YMMV section that Ian possibly modified the nail gun since most nail guns only fire off once before needing reloading and pointed out he was the one who loaded it in the first place to kill some pigeons. While he doesn't kill Erin directly, his negligence with the nail gun is what leads to her death.
Ian original death was dying by something falling above him. In the hardware shop this was with pointy fence posts, and in the climax, he dies when a pointy McKinley sign falls right on top of him. Ian was in an earlier scene in the film bemoaning his surname. Before his death Ian was mocking Wendy that she was next on Death's list because it had skipped him. You can notice the wind blowing (a constant sign of Death) and the fireworks moving to fire in his direction. Ian still thinks he's in the clear and that it's Wendy who's going to die. Cue the sign falling down. Do Not Taunt Cthullu indeed. Death probably prioritised Ian after hearing his declaration. Because as this franchise has already demonstrated, Death is sadistic and unforgiving and most likely took Ian's boost that he ain't dying as a personal challenge.
Julie's lucky charm bracelet. Guess it really is lucky, considering it is what Wendy uses to identify the mystery people sitting in front of them and lets Wendy and Kevin save her life.
Wendy was the one who quickly took the blinding and overexposed photo of Kevin and just as quickly saves him from his sudden death in the finale. His face is even the same as the picture just before the moment.
The alternative beginning that has Wendy see the vision during the coin flip rather than on the rid, saves Carrie, Kevin, Jason, and Wendy, and all of them go on to live long lives seems like a joke. However, it checks out that Death wouldn't chase them since, per rules shown in Final Destination 5, you gain the lives of those you have killed. And since those four didn't get on the ride to begin with, they gained the lifespan of the four other people who took their place.
Ashley and Ashlyn probably did not die quickly, even with the cut to their funerals. Other troopers have already mentioned they could've been in the tanning beds up to ten minutes before their deaths. Which if horrific. Worse, is that they are largely responsible for it. Turning up the heat, bringing in a drink when told not to and locking the front door which prevents the employee from coming in and saving them. Additionally, it's something they have done before, except this time it ends up killing them. Death took advantage of their quirks and habits to make their deaths inescapable.
Death also does the same with Lewis and Frankie if you think about it. As already mentioned, Lewis wanted to be in control of his life and if he had stopped after the swords came down and examined the machinery, he wouldn't have died. And because Frankie prioritised his spot and acted like a dick in the drive-through (just like on the rollercoaster) even if it disadvantaged Kevin and Wendy and dismissed their outrage/warning. It killed him. Had Frankie literally just moved his car forward or turned around to look at Kevin and Wendy who were in apparent danger. He might have lived.
At Ashley and Ashlyn's funeral. Wendy describes she feels like something cold and dark is stalking her since the rollercoaster. Its presence unnerves and terrifies her and considering the sudden gust of wind that comes over both Wendy and Kevin. It's obviously Death and it's pretty horrifying to think that even though Wendy is not yet next on Death's List. Death is still ever present with her since the Rollercoaster, and she is unable to escape from Death truly. It really hammers the point that the characters in this universe are Cosmic Playthings.
The final scene. Kevin catches on from Wendy that the train is going to crash and tries in vain to pull the break but to no avail and both Wendy and Julie try and get the train to stop.The screen cuts to black as the viewer is left to imagine what will happen. But if Wendy's premonition has already shown in graphic detail, their chances are not good and it doesn't help Word of God also doesn't believe they survive.
