Fridge Brilliance

  • As detailed under Enemy Civil War on the main page, the various spy agencies are supposed to fight one another thanks to the Evil Genius' moles amongst their leaders after a certain quest. It has a notable habit of not working, with the soldiers often fighting side by side against your forces. But how many times has the "special forces find their superior has been lying to them about their supposed enemies" plot appeared in spy stories and political thrillers? How many times have those soldiers figured this out, and then worked with their former enemy to take out the Big Bad? This is only annoying because you're the Big Bad in this case.
  • Moko's attempts to roar getting interrupted by him burping, running out of breath, etc. is a nice touch regarding his backstory. He used to be a divine temple guardian, but he became mortal quite recently in-universe. Moko's not yet used to having a body that needs to breathe or release gas.
  • Why do only Mercenaries decide to steal your cash if they defect? They are mercenaries. With 0 loyalty, they no longer see value in you as an employer, and decide to help themselves to their payment and keep the gun you gave them.
  • Cuba is notorious for having exceptionally difficult Acts of Infamy, usually involving a startlingly high Risk level that will quickly decimate your minions. This is because successfully infiltrating a heavily fortified island nation on perpetual high alert would be monumentally difficult, and because your minions would have to penetrate not only H.A.M.M.E.R.'s security, but evade notice from P.A.T.R.I.O.T.'s own intense monitoring of the island.
  • H.A.M.M.E.R. corresponds to the Eastern Bloc, in other words the Communist USSR and its sphere of influence. Which symbol was and still is omnipresent in communist countries? Hammer and sickle, which also appeared on the USSR flag. Likewise, referring to the Chinese sphere as "A.N.V.I.L." keeps the hammer-related metaphor about communism, as Communist China really had its own faction (antagonist with USSR's one) during the Cold War.
  • During the tutorial, Maximilian orders Number Two shot at the end of the tutorial despite her protests since she's no longer useful; after being shot, her last words are how she never liked him anyway. Sure he could be doing this For the Evulz, but this becomes retroactive Fridge Brilliance with the sequel explaining that Maximilian's Freudian Excuse is how nobody liked or respected him no matter what he did. He saw through Number Two's facade and it hit his Tranquil Fury Berserk Button, so of course he'd have her shot the instant he didn't need her!

Fridge Horror

  • P.A.T.R.I.O.T. and S.A.B.R.E. are the NATO/Western Bloc split into two independent factions ingame (P.A.T.R.I.O.T. is the US sphere of influence, S.A.B.R.E. is the European members of the Western Bloc and the British Commonwealth minus Canada). Once you complete "Global Chaos", agents of the enemy factions will fight against each other (sometimes). While the Western Bloc, USSR, and China have reason to not trust each other to begin with, post-Global Chaos's infighting results in P.A.T.R.I.O.T. and S.A.B.R.E. operatives turning hostile against each other. The Evil Genius managed to provoke the implosion of the Western Bloc!
