While it may seem like Ezekiel's downplayed Sanity Slippage was merely so Courtney could have someone to confide in, it's actually perfectly justified within the story: since Ezekiel had someone to feed him and talk to him, he was able to retain some measure of reality compared to the canon version, who had no one of the sort.
