When you think about it, this game actually does a good job of explaining why Shovel Knight's appeared in so many games as of late: he's a Blade Stranger, of course he'd appear in those games' worlds to check up on them and guard them from harm.
This could also apply to those who've appeared in other games (Gunvolt, Quote and Curly, Solange, Kawase, Aban...).
