Every character's story mode is canon in parallel universes
At the end of the story mode, the character you were playing as is shown flying off into space in a beam of light. The end credits then show several such beams of light flying through space, suggesting the existence of multiple Blade Strangers. Every character's story mode happens simultaneously, each in a different parallel universe. As the power of the Blade Stranger allows travel between universes, what the end credits show are several of the playable characters, each from a different universe where they defeated Lina and became the Blade Stranger, all meeting up in one universe.
