Fridge Brilliance
- The fact that Hans Gruper (aka Dr. Arden from Asylum) was the mastermind behind the snuff film that cost Elsa her legs could partially explain Arden's hatred for Sister Jude in Asylum. She reminds him of the "experiment" that he failed to kill.
- It may seem strange to a first time viewer that Twisty doesn't attempt to harm Gloria, but then you realize: according to Twisty's simple view on parenting and abuse, she did nothing wrong. In fact, to him, she may appear to be the ideal parent.
- So at the end of series, Elsa dies at Edward Mordrake's hand and is sent to Heaven—and not just any Heaven, but a recreation of her "Cabinet of Curiosities" on Earth, complete with nearly every freak who ever worked there, who welcome her back with love and tell her that she's going to be the headliner to packed houses for eternity. Now, Elsa was a selfish would-be starlet who used people in her own desperate quest for fame, so why does she get such a pleasant afterlife? Simple—because deep down, Elsa really did care about the "freaks" she took into her show. Unlike Dandy, who viewed freaks as toys to play with, or Stanley, who was only interested in their bodies (to the point of murdering and mummifying them), Elsa did create a "home"-like environment for the people she signed to her show. It's an odd inversion of "ends justifying the means": Elsa's intentions to use the freaks to bolster her own ego and stardom were self-centered, but the way she did it was kind, generous, and loving. That's why the freaks' personal Heaven is being together again in Elsa's tent: she made them feel like a family of respected human beings for the first time in their lives. And her role in creating that family is precisely why she earns the happy ending she so desperately wanted.
- The whole thing about Dot and Bette masturbating seems a bit like a joke at first... but when you think about the fact that they both experience that, questions about things like consent start to come up and it all becomes very uncomfortable.
- The Twin Telepathy between the sisters also becomes this. They share the same dreams, but they're only controlled by one person at a time. But the big one has to be that there are no secrets between the two. Imagine living next to someone who resents your very existence, knowing that you can hear every single discouraging and vile thought, and you can't physically get away without ending your own life.
- Which leads to Fridge Brilliance with their diaries, as they always write in them at the same time. If they're so focused on their own thoughts, they can't focus on the other's. This also explains Bette's reaction to Dandy reading her diary, as not even Dot knew its contents.
- In the episode, "Tupperware Party Massacre," it is revealed that Dandy has turned his mother's corpse into a Dead Guy Puppet. Messed up enough on its own, but the real fridge horror sets in when you realize that Dandy had to undress and clean his mother's body to make that puppet.
- There's no indication that the Freaks actually reported Twisty to the police, or even spread rumors beyond their own campfire. Twisty may very well have just convinced himself that they did. In short, his entire depressing story-arc happened because some drunken dwarfs talked shit to him, and he took it seriously.
