Fire Breathing Diner / Film

Go To

Animated:

  • The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad: In "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow", Ichabod absentmindedly pours too much pepper on his hard-boiled egg, causing him to breathe smoke and fire.
  • Elemental (2023): Every meal is like this for fire elementals. When Ember does her deliveries she gives a couple with a baby lighter fluid, and later when Wade tries to pass himself off as a food inspector Ember’s father tests him by giving him hot coals which cause him to boil, burp up a bubble that screams and nearly melt into a puddle.
  • In Rango the title character belches flame on an outlaw's face after ingesting both fermented cactus juice and a lit cigar. The outlaw seems annoyed more than anything else.
  • A variation is played in Saludos Amigos, where Donald drinks a glass of Brazilian cachaça (saying it's an extremely strong sugarcane spirit is a very great understatement) that causes him to spout flames. José Carioca then uses Donald's flame breath to light a cigar.
  • In The Simpsons Movie, after Homer is found by a medicine woman, she has him drink a liquid that results in him screaming and breathing fire. Afterwards, he immediately asks for more.

Live-Action:

  • In The Addams Family, the children brew "lemonade" which, when given to Lurch, causes him to breathe a fireball. And since this is Lurch we're talking about, he probably got off light compared to what it would do to a normal human.
  • One of the funnier scenes in Angel's Project have the heroine - a Hong Kong cop sent on assignment in Malaysia - accidentally ordering assam laksa, a notoriously spicy Malaysian noodle dish. What's even worse is that she has extremely low tolerance for spicy food, and ends up teary-eyed and gulping down cup after cup of water afterwards.
  • Happens to the titular hero in Condorman after consuming a triple "Istanbul Express".
  • In the first Critters one of them swallows a fire cracker; it burps up a flame after it explodes inside of it and it dies.
  • Played straight in Dumb and Dumber, when Harry and Lloyd laced their traveling companion's diner burger with "atomic" peppers. The result was so intense that it nearly killed him by making his stomach ulcer flare up. Then Harry fed him rat poison - thinking it was his ulcer medication - and actually killed him.
  • A subplot of A Fine Mess is that Dennis Powell (Howie Mandel) wants to open his own Indian food restaurant that would specialize in curry, although he's never actually tried it before. Dennis's first experience eating curry at a restaurant with Ellen has him downing drinks, eating leaves out of the flowers on the table, running to other customers' tables to drink whatever they have until he finally just starts SCREAMING!
  • Featured in The Mask, after the titular entity has just swallowed a bomb and had it explode inside him.
The Mask (fake Italian accent): That's a spicy meat-a ball-a!
  • In The Outlaws IS Coming!, the Stooges are forced to drink a Gargle Blaster called Tarantula Fizz. Moe breaths out a stream of smoke, while Curly Joe exhales a stream of actual fire.
  • The Tag for Scooby-Doo has Shaggy daring Scooby to eat an entire jar of spicy peppers, which causes smoke to come out of his ears and mouth. Finally, when they each eat their own jarfuls, the scene cuts to the exterior of the restaurant, and we hear them screaming as two smoke clouds billow out the windows.
  • In Mel Brooks' Silent Movie the character drive past a Thai restaurant. All the patrons have smoke coming out of their mouths.
  • This happens to Roger Rabbit in the opening cartoon "Somethin’s Cookin" at the beginning of Who Framed Roger Rabbit. After being forced to drink an entire bottle of Acme Chili Sauce “Extra Hot” the tea kettle stuck on Rogers’s head began to turn bright red like a thermometer. When it turned completely red steam started hissing from it and his overalls, Roger then exploded out of the kettle like a flaming rocket across the kitchen head first into an ironing board.
