Also known as Wyvern: Rise of the Dragon in some territories, A 2009 Canadian-American Made-for-TV Movie Horror directed by Steven R Monroe that has an Alaskan town being terrorized by a flying reptile.
The movie stars Nick Chinlund, Erin Karpluk, Barry Corbin, Tinsel Korey, Simon Longmore, John Shaw, Elaine Miles, Don S. Davis, Karen Austin, David James Lewis, and Dave Ward.
It aired on January 31, 2009 SyFy.
Tropes for the film:
- Covers Always Lie: Some versions of the movie poster (including the one for this page) depicts the Wyvern breathing-fire even though the creature never does this in the actual film nor is any indication given it has this ability.
- Eye Awaken: Part of a glacier melts away to reveal the titular creature's closed eye, which then opens.
- It Can Think: The title monster proves itself far more intelligent than a simple animal. It destroys cars and intentionally uses them to block the interstate to keep its prey from escaping. It opens its attack on the town proper by knocking out the town's power and communications and continues to destroy any it can find. And later in the movie it uses one seriously wounded but alive David as bait to try and lure the others out. Justified, as it's implied it's actually the child of Hel from Norse mythology and thus less a dragon and more a divine entity shaped like one.
- I Want You to Meet an Old Friend of Mine: Corbin and Miles previously worked together on Northern Exposure, which also takes place in Alaska.
- One-Word Title: Wyvern.
- Our Dragons Are Different: It falls straight squarely into the Wyvern-variant, while initially called a dragon the characters quickly start referring to it as a Wyvern.
- Tagline: "Ancient evil has come to feed".
- You Need a Breath Mint: The Wyvern. One of the characters makes a comment about a horrible smell in the air after it roars for a rather long time inside the bar she and the other characters are hiding in.
