The story follows the estranged brother and sister Gray and Joey Reese, who embark on a whitewater rafting trip amongst tourists with their childhood friend named Trevor. Along the river, the events quickly turn from exciting to terrifying, as the group finds themselves trapped alongside a killer who is intent to sabotage the trip while keeping secrets from the past from being revealed.
What makes it worst is that the killer comes from inside the group. Joey must overcome her fears and work with her brother Gray to survive to the end of the river, before it's too late.
This film contains examples of:
- Ax-Crazy: Soon enough, Trevor becomes this. At first, he still retains his affable personality even after revealing himself to be Van's murderer. However, as the story goes on, he becomes more and more sociopathic, loosing any and all of his moral qualms in order to kill anyone in his way.
- Black Dude Dies First: Subverted. Karissa is the only camper to come out alive and without major injuries.
- The Dragon: Subverted. While Gray initially reluctantly went along with Trevor's plans, he redeemed himself by not only fighting Trevor to give the other campers time to escape, but then dragging himself and Trevor to their deaths to save Joey.
- Faux Affably Evil: After killing an innocent hiker who tries to help, Trevor loses his affable personality and becomes increasingly violent.
- From Nobody to Nightmare: While initally affable and a bit tongue-in-cheek in nature, Trevor slowly but surely proves himself to be a homicidal sociopath who will do anything to prevent more people from finding out about him killing Van.
- Quiet Cry for Help: Joey uses her metal lighter to signal for help to a hiker crossing a bridge above the river.
- The Sociopath: Trevor.
- Rape Is a Special Kind of Evil: When Joey was 15 years old, Trevor used her to fufill his perverted desires. He also tried to do the same thing to Van.
