"Oink. OINK. OINK!"-Gunda

Gunda is a Norwegian-American Nature Documentary by Viktor Kossakovsky and executive produced by Joaquin Phoenix. It follows the lives of a pig, two cows, and a one-legged chicken.

This film provides examples of:

  • Deliberately Monochrome: The film is shot in black and white.
  • Downer Ending: The movie ends with Gunda's piglets being taken away from her, most likely to be slaughtered. The last few minutes show Gunda running around the farm at a loss, distressed by her piglets' disappearance, before she quietly retreats to her sty.
  • No Plot? No Problem!: Mostly follows the goings-on of a bunch of animals on a farm.
  • Outliving One's Offspring: Gunda's piglets are taken away in the end, presumably for slaughter.
  • Reality Has No Soundtrack: The movie has no score.
  • Silence Is Golden: The movie seeks to depict its animal characters as unanthropomorphized as possible, which means that not only is there no dialogue, there is also no narration whatsoever. In fact, every sound in the movie comes from the animals' vocalizations, the surrounding nature or machinery.
