Ducoboo (French: L'Élève Ducobu) is a French family comedy film, based on the L’Élève Ducobu Belgian comic series by Godi (artist) and Zidrou (scenarist). The film was directed by Philippe de Chauveron and features Élie Semoun, Joséphine de Meaux, Vincent Claude and Juliette Chappey. It was released on 22 June 2011.


Ducoboo provides examples of:

  • Adaptational Dumbass: Mr. Latouche constantly proves to be surprisingly ignorant when it comes to subjects like music, whereas his comic book counterpart is more well-educated.
  • All Men Are Perverts: Ducoboo Sr. and Mr. Latouche are both distracted in separate occasions by their love interest's butt.
  • Animated Credits Opening: In the style of the comic book.
  • Being Personal Isn't Professional: Léonie Gratin affirms that she is too academic to focus on love.
  • Brilliant, but Lazy: Ducoboo is actually a clever and inventive child, but he refuses to work.
  • Cannot Spit It Out: Both Mr. Latouche and Ms. Rateau are in love with each other (and have been for over two years), but none can summon the courage to confess their feelings.
  • Child Hater: Subverted with Mr. Latouche, who constantly berates and yells at his students, but who later affirms: "I love children... but I also love to scold them."
  • Class Clown: Ducoboo is eager to put on shows, such as imitating Mr. Latouche's attempts at flirting, to make the other children laugh.
  • Collector of the Strange: Mr. Latouche is shown to collect dunce hats and to frame them in his house.
  • Competition Freak: Léonie Gratin strives to be number one at every single school subject, including sport.
  • Creature of Habit: Mr. Latouche hates Ducoboo for being a disruptive element to his routine.
  • Did I Just Say That Out Loud?: Mr. Latouche can't help but reveal his true feelings ("Palpitation!") in front of his class.
  • Dreadful Musician: Once he doesn't have Access to his cheat devices, Ducoboo can't play even the most basic tunes on the flute.
  • Enraged by Idiocy: Mr. Latouche.
  • Expelled from Every Other School: Ducoboo. Saint Potache school is the only and last school who will take him before he is sent to state pension.
  • The Bully: Mr. Latouche is overly authoritarian towards his students.
  • Extreme Doormat: Karine doesn't do much else besides agreeing with everything Léonie says.
  • Graceful in Their Element: Mr. Latouche is at his best inside of a classroom.
  • Insufferable Genius: Léonie is this to her classmates.
  • Laborious Laziness: Ducoboo puts lots on effort into cheating schemes.
  • Lawful Pushover: Ms. Rateau can't bring herself to use her authority over the children.
  • The Load: Gratin believed Ducoboo to be this at the start of the treasure hunt in the forest.
  • Loser Protagonist Ducoboo doesn't fit society's standards for a Good student.
  • Manchild: Mr. Latouche still lives with his mom, has a bedtime, and is very naive and emotionally stunted.
  • My Beloved Smother: Mr. Latouche's mother, who stunted and keeps stunting her son's social development.
  • No Indoor Voice: Mr. Latouche constantly and suddenly yells, which usually startles whomever's next to him.
  • Sacrificed Basic Skill for Awesome Training: Mr. Latouche, as academically driven as he might be, is amazed by the basic life tips he reads on his self-help book.
  • Serious Business: Mr. Latouche, when confronted with any activity, such as going for a walk through the forest or observing wild flowers.
  • Slave to PR: When Ducoboo and his team get lost in the forest, Mr. Latouche cares more about what that incident Will mean for him and his career than for what will happen to the children. Ms. Rateau has to remind him to get his priorities straight.
  • Super Gullible: Surprisingly, Mr. Latouche, who at first believes all the made-up stories Ducoboo tells him.
  • Theremin: Ms. Rateau is seen playing the theremin in her spare time.
  • "Well Done, Son" Guy: Mr. Latouche desperately wants approval from his very strict mother.
