I don't think we're in Angel Grove anymore...

Devon's Ghost: Legend of the Bloody Boy is a 2005 Slasher Movie co-directed by Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers alumni Johnny Yong Bosch and Koichi Sakamoto and written by fellow alum Karan Ashley.

The movie concerns the re-opening of a high school after a young boy named Devon had been apparently murdered across the street a decade prior by his parents, who were themselves killed soon after. The movie follows Symphony (Karan Ashley), whose father defended the boy's parents in court and has herself been haunted by the sight of a blood-soaked Devon years ago. As the school re-opens a decade later, Devon (seemingly) reemerges, slaughtering high schoolers with a circular saw blade attached to a baseball bat. But is it really him? What is the motive? Who really caused the deaths all those years ago?

Tropes Associated With This Movie Include

  • Abusive Parents: Devon often flashes back to the emotional and physical abuse his parents inflicted on him before committing his murders.
  • Aerith and Bob: We have characters named Symphony, Josh, Devon, Craig, Genesis, Mark, Fatima, Gary, and Freedom.
  • Arc Words: "I Want to Play"
  • Batter Up!: Devon's weapon is a baseball bat mounted with a saw blade. He even dresses in a baseball jersey and steals a cap from a victim to complete the look.
  • Buried Alive: Devon's parents buried him in their yard after they mistakenly thought they killed him with a blow to the head from a baseball bat. His grandmother rescued him, however.
  • Chekhov's Skill: Early in the movie Symphony mentions she has been taking karate lessons for 10 years. These skills come in handy when she (and Josh) have to fight Devon hand-to-hand.
  • Disappeared Dad: Symphony's father is only seen during news footage from the trial of Devon's parents, and he vanished soon after their acquittal. it is later revealed he was murdered by Devon's grandmother.
  • Exposition Dump: Symphony and Josh described their whole background with the murders to their friends when sitting outside the school.
  • Freak Out: Symphony has a few during the movie related to remembering the trauma of seeing the bloody Devon.
  • Freudian Excuse: Devon's parents were emotionally and physically abusive and apparently thought little of having sex in front of him Devon's grandmother is not much better... she killed them and made him watch while she did it.
  • Mr. Exposition: Freedom and Devon's grandmother both serve this role in different scenes.
  • My Greatest Failure: The school principal appears to feel this way about her inability to stop the abuse of Devon, which happened when she was an elementary school teacher and he was a student who lived nearby.
  • Nobody Poops: Averted - there's an extended scene in a public restroom where one of the characters spends the entire time on the toilet.
  • No Celebrities Were Harmed: From the brief amount of screentime we get of him, Symphony's father bears more than a passing resemblance to Johnnie Cochran.
  • Non-Indicative Title: Devon is not a ghost, and the image of him being covered in blood is mostly a source of trauma for Symphony more than a plot point.
  • Out with a Bang: Two different couples are murdered in the process of foreplay. It's suspected that Devon associates any couple who he sees making out with his abusive parents.
  • Paparazzi: Mark Miller, the sleazy tabloid "investigative journalist" who made the original murder into national news.
  • Red Herring: Freedom, who holds parties celebrating the original murders, is suspected of being a part of the new ones, but ends up being a key part of solving the mystery due to his knowledge of the case.
  • Silent Antagonist: Devon only ever says "I want to play", and only that a few times.
  • Stealth Hi/Bye: To an absurd degree as at several points, Devon simply disappears via a jump cut!.
  • The End... Or Is It?: The last shot is Symphony and Josh looking into the distance after a police officer is heard screaming and firing his gun at Devon. The closing credits tease ''Devon's Ghost 2''. It has never happened.
  • Wild Teen Party: Gary throws one after the school barbecue is cancelled.
