A rogue saltwater crocodile has journeyed to Thailand and started killing people.

Local zoo owner Jack McQuade (already facing attempts to run him out of business by his influential rivals the Konsong brothers) finds his animals being accused for the deaths, as circumstances end up forcing him and his friends and family to ally with mysterious hunter Hawkins (Michael Madsen) who has been tracking the crocodile, to kill it.

Contains examples of:

  • All There in the Manual: Cao is credited as Cao Konsong Sr., but his son doesn't actually appear in the movie.
  • Bait-and-Switch Tyrant: Evelyn is first seen sternly taking note of some violations while inspecting Jack's farm, and shrugs off his claims of sabotage by the Konsongs. During her briefing, however, she does not recommend shutting the farm down, stating that the violations were minor, easily fixed ones. This causes the Konsongs to get her fired.
  • Bruiser with a Soft Center: The tough-looking Hawkins is after the crocodile not for money or a love of killing, but because it has killed dozens of people, whose pictures he has on the wall of his boat, and he wants to stop the suffering it causes, while displaying deep empathy for its victims.
  • Cool Big Sis: Jack's sister Allison bails him out when he has tax trouble and maintains a close relationship with him (although the fact that her son works for him helps).
  • The Dead Have Names: Hawkins has pictures of all of the crocodiles victims, and does this partially to keep their memories alive.
  • Death of a Child: A young boy is among the crocodile's victims. There is a Hope Spot when Jack and Evelyn don wetsuits and go into the water to try to save the boy, whose alive but in the creatures mouth, but they fail. Chompoo's teenaged sister and her boyfriend are also eaten.
  • Gold Digger: Cao Konsong's dialogue towards his wife largely consists of insulting her for spending his money and she isn't bothered in the least after he and Andy die.
  • Cool Shades: Cagy hunter Hawkins tends to wear sunglasses.
  • "Everybody Laughs" Ending: Once the croc has been killed, and people are relaxed, one of the final shots is them laughing a little when Hawkins admits that his limp came from a random accident and not a fight with a crocodile.
  • Handicapped Badass: Hawkins is a capable hunter, whose abilities are emphasized by his noticeable limp. This is actually unrelated to his hunting, and came from a forklift accident while he was in the Navy.
  • Intimidating Revenue Service: Revenue agents keep showing up when Konsongs keep reporting Jack for unpaid taxes and then make it harder for him to pay said taxes.
  • I Own This Town: The Konsong brothers display utter indignation at the idea of a city employee refusing their orders and are able to get her fired.
  • Kid Detective: Theo tries to get proof of the Konsong's corruption in one scene.
  • Life-or-Limb Decision: Shows up the climax when Jack has his leg stuck in the mouth of the crocodile right as it's killed, and is trapped underwater, being faced with the choice between drowning or an amputation before the others knock open the croc's mouth with a boom stick.
  • Meet Cute: Jack's nephew Theo meets his girlfriend Chompoo this way, eyeing each other across the room with Theo then going over to flirt (with some lies mixed in) which quickly lose their steam when some tax people show up to question Jack.
  • Star-Crossed Lovers: Briefly Theo and Chompoo when her sister is a victim of the croc and everyone thinks that it came from Jack's farm, causing her family to shun Jack and Theo.
  • Surprisingly Happy Ending: The crocodile is killed without a single fatality to the hunting party, although there are a couple of close calls.
  • Tempting Fate: After a tourist family is having their children get out of the water due to the threat of the crocodile, when the oldest child keeps refusing, his father exasperatedly says he hopes he gets eaten right before the crocodile snatches the boy, with the father leaping into the water in a failed attempt to rescue him.
  • Vomit Indiscretion Shot: Vomit is plainly visible when Andy Konsong throws up after finding his brother's body, right before being killed himself.
