Cemetery Gates is a 2006 American horror film directed by Roy Knyrim and starring Reggie Bannister, Peter Stickles, and Aime Wolf.

When an Animal Wrongs Group break-in the laboratory of Dr. Belmont, they find a box with a subject and they decide to set the experiment free in the woods. During the transportation, the box opens and releases the mutant Tasmanian Devil that devours the two activists and escapes to the woods. Meanwhile, Dr. Belmont's son Hunter travels in a van with four friends to film a horror movie in the cemetery in the woods, while Belmont and his associate Dr. Christine Kollar seek their deadly experiment called Precious.

Tropes:

  • Animal Wrongs Group: After breaking into a laboratory facility in order to free the animals kept there for experiments, two environmental activists unleash a giant genetically mutated Tasmanian devil from its cage.
  • Crusty Caretaker: John Martin is the groundskeeper at the Southern Cross Cemetery. He allows Hunter and his friends to film there, but then sends his sons to rob and, if necessary, murder them. From the conversation with his sons and the loot stashed in the caves, this is not the first time this has happened.
  • The Ditz/Dumb Blonde: August. When Kym tells Tony and Enrique that they wouldn't now what to do with a pragmatic woman, August comments that she is part Russian. Later, Tony persuades her to make a sex tape with him with the argument "everyone is doing it".
  • The End... Or Is It?: Ends with the reveal that the mutant Tasmanian devil Precious has given birth to two joeys in the mine tunnels before she was killed.
  • Erotic Eating: August spends the van ride to the cemetery licking a lollipop is the most erotic way possible; even deep-throating it at one point.
  • Evil Smells Bad: Everybody attacked by Precious comments on the foul stench before they are aware of her presence. Truth in Television, as when agitated, Tasmanian devils release a musk that rivals a skunk's in pungency.
  • Extremely Short Timespan: About 24 hours. The break-in at the lab occurs sometime during the night. Hunter and his friends travel to the cemetery in the morning, and the film ends the following dawn.
  • Fluffy the Terrible: The giant genetically mutated Volatile Tasmanian Devil is named Precious.
  • Half the Man He Used to Be: Ed the fisherman is cut in half at the waist by a single swipe of Precious' claws.
  • Home Porn Movie: Tony persuades August to make a sex tape with using the video equipment while Hunter and Kym are off scouting locations. It ends tragically and the camera ends up recording them being killed by the Precious.
  • Metafictional Title: Cemetery Gates is the name of the student film Hunter is shooting in the cemetery.
  • Mistaken for Gay: Kym has told August that Hunter is gay (presumably to keep August away from her boyfriend). As a result, August assumes that Hunter's roommate Matt is as well, and keeps referring to them as "the gays".
  • Peek-a-Boo Corpse: Having fallen into the tunnels underneath the cemetery, Matt freaks out when one of the corpses drops out of its coffin and lands on top of him.
  • Robbing the Dead: Crusty Caretaker John Martin carries a fancy pocket watch he stole from one of the coffins in the cemetery.
  • Throwaway Guns: After firing two shots from his shotgun at Precious to no obvious effect, Dr. Belmont then inexplicably throws the shotgun at the monster.
  • Too Dumb to Live: Earl and Dale Martin. Having already seen the mutated Tasmanian devil kill someone in front of them, they don't decide to get the hell out of Dodge, but instead go to the cemetery to shake down the filmmakers, and then hang around an unreasonably long time waiting for Hunter and Kym to return. And then are surprised when Precious attacks.
  • Volatile Tasmanian Devil: A giant genetically modified Tasmanian devil takes refuge in a cemetery and start attacking anyone who enters.
