Meloetta

Morphs [Oak Catalog #648]

  • Meloetta Aria Forme [648-A]
  • Meloetta Pirouette Forme [648-P]

Physical Descriptions

Meloetta is an interesting Pokémon. It is a humanoid Pokémon with feminine features, though it is unknown if it is capable of breeding, or whether it cannot like most Legendary and Mythical Pokémon. However, for purposes of simplicity, it will be referred to as a "she." Notably, her hair resembles a musical bar, and her eyes, arms, and headpiece resemble notes.

She is known to change form whenever she sings a certain song. Her jewel, hair, irises and midriff change from green to a reddish brown. with her green-colored form called from now on Aria Form, and the auburn-colored form is called Pirouette Form. In Aria Form, she has long, straight hair, while she has an auburn-colored bun in the shape of a spiral in Pirouette From. Also, in both forms, she seems to be wearing black clothes, with Pirouette Form having it take the shape of a tutu and as long dress in Aria Form. There is also mention of red shoes in old tales, but these have not been found on her person.

Her Aria Form has been reported to be weak to Dirty Tactics and shadows, but an advantage over more poisonous Pokémon. Her Pirouette Form, on the other hand, has been reported to be weak to other Psychics, as well as strong winds, aura-based attacks, and fey and lunar powers, but can retaliate against dirty fighters more easily than she could in her Aria Form. This and the fact that ectoplasmic attacks have no effect on her in either form led to her being classified as a Normal/Psychic type in Aria Form and a Normal/Fighting in Pirouette Form.

Lore and History

Meloetta is known in Unova mythology as an inspiration to artists, dancers and musicians. One myth states that whenever she sang a particular song and danced, people’s hearts were filled with joy, but one day when the world was in sorrow, she lost both her red shoes, the memory of that certain song and day is said to have given her the ability to change into her Pirouette Form.

Other legends mention that her song is also capable of calming down Tornadus, Thundurus and Landorus. Yet another passed down that she witnessed a meteor fall from the heavens and that her first song was in audience of the meteor’s rider, a dragon.

There are also myths of there being not one Meloetta, but multiple, nine being the common amount, with three also likely to crop up. Some stories, drawing influence from Sinnoh mythology, say that either Arceus or Uxie created her to bring art to the universe. It could also be possible that Mesprit created Meloetta to teach the people of the world the joy and sadness of life. This strangely crops up alongside the "Multiple Meloetta" theory in most records, despite Arceus and its creations, Dialga, Palkia, Giratina, Uxie, Azelf and Mesprit being one of a kind. Some people use this as evidence against both theories (Particularity the Arceus interpretation) as they seem mutually exclusive. As a side effect of some people moving from Sinnoh to Johto in ancient times, Meloetta sometimes crops up in myths involving Ho-Oh, with some speculation that the Kimono Girls' traditions are based on how the Meloetta acted in Ho-Oh and Lugia's presence and sang a song that is associated with Lugia.

Finally, there are some rituals involving her. They are often found in the context of serene forests, concerts and dance recitals. There are even rare cases of her choosing a dance partner from humans or other Pokémon, either performing alongside them or training them in the arts of song and dance.

Interestingly, the song recorded in some legends does exist and is known as the Relic Song. However as the tune is mostly lost to history, very few know of its existence, and fewer still know how to recreate it correctly to help Meloetta remember.

Known Sightings

As a Mythical Pokémon, sightings of her are of course very rare. However, there have been sightings in forests and some human performances, but those involved with the latter mention that she leaves immediately afterwards.

An unusual appearance occurred near Undella Town where she is said to have calmed down the Forces of Nature with the help of some trainers and a Pikachu.

Abilities

As mentioned before, Meloetta is a singer and a dancer, and her Relic Song changes her body to optimize for one or both tasks. She knows how to translate her dances into aura-based powers and use Psychic Powers to her advantage when cornered, and can also summon Lightning-bolts and blind the opponent with light.

In either Form, she can utilize the same attacks, but their power will be higher or lower depending on the forme. She also has a perpetual air of serenity around her, doubling the rate of the side effects of certain moves like Thunder or Charge Beam happening.

Hazards

While Meloetta is gentle and prefers performances to battle, it is still unwise to attack her, as even when locked into Aria Form, she can still utilize attacks such as Psychic, Hyper Beam, Thunder, Dazzling Gleam and Psyshock to devastating effect. She can also use her special Relic Song and other moves to placate the opponent and instantly tire them to a state of unconsciousness or even death.

In her Pirouette Form she can utilize Fighting-type moves like Close Combat, Low Kick and Draining Punch to great effect and can out-speed most Pokémon, however, as she only enters Aria Form by default and needs to know her song to transform, it leaves an opening for those faster to exploit.

Other

She is revered as an inspiration and a muse to many entertainers and artists. Her Pirouette form’s fighting style has inspired new and unusual methods for martial arts and dancing alike, such as the Teeter Dance. She also inspired the most dangerous song in existence, capable of fainting (or even killing if left unchecked) both the singer and its opponent, known as the Perish Song. While scholars in ancient times attempted to prevent it's spread, it is recorded in several books across the globe today, which are all under high security. It is against the law to read the song unless given permission from a higher-level authority. If an attempt is made to sing it, the perpetrator shall be punished with either a life sentence or death.
