The story is a different take on canon events, starting with one seemingly small divergence: Ethan bringing his gun to the Lizard trial. That decision has ripple effects on the rest of the plot, causing subsequent events to play out quite a bit differently. As Norman works alongside Ethan and Madison to rescue Shaun and find the Origami Killer, he finds himself confounded by Ethan's persistent "crazylogic." But what if his "crazylogic" isn't so crazy after all?

- I Was Just Joking: This exchange between Norman and Madison:"I, uh. I'm not sure if "thanks" is appropriate, in these circumstances. But, you know, maybe I won't arrange to have you killed after this is over."She stared at him, shocked. "You...won't...""Jesus, I'm kidding. Just start the car." He paused, rubbing his face. "Besides, that's the CIA."
- Jekyll & Hyde: Norman thinks this might be the case with Ethan, even referring to his potential other half as his "Mr. Hyde." Like in canon, this is subverted.
- Mad Doctor: Adrian Baker.
- Ms. Exposition: Madison.
- Psychic Powers: Ethan is an empath, with the ability to feel the pain of others around him. In chapter 19, he is able to see and talk to Norman's hallucination of Shaun, which represents Norman's guilt.
