Witches and Warlocks is a crossover fic between The Owl House and Destiny, in which an Exo Warlock named Royal-6 and his Ghost Lancer are trapped in the realm of the Vex, and have been for some time. The story begins with Royal and Lancer escaping... into the Demon Realm a little before the events of "Covention". Not only are the two of them now trapped in the wrong dimension, and possibly a different timeline, but the Vex are now aware that the Demon Realm exists, and are turning their diabolical machinations towards the inhabitants of the Titan...

This fanfic provides examples of:

  • Abnormal Ammo: In Chapter 17, Eda tries to fire Royal's gun after replacing the bullets with a replica inscribed with ice glyphs. Unfortunately, when she tries to fire it just makes the gun explode.
  • Adaptational Early Appearance:
    • Hunter appears early in the season 1 timeframe, when canonically he didn't appear until the tail end of season one, and didn't get any real screen-time until season 2.
    • The Collector wasn't mentioned or shown until around the middle of season 2. Here they appear right after the season 1 climax.
  • Adaptational Origin Connection: In this universe the Collector seems to have some kind of connection to the Darkness.
  • Alternate Self: Chapter 28, it's revealed that Paladin and Venator are alternate versions of Royal from different timelines.
  • Blood Knight: Sarkarae, being Synegorus' hatred and bloodlust, naturally wants to jump straight into slaughtering the witches of the Isles, and has to be held in check. It also becomes furious when Royal won't fight back.
  • Brick Joke: When Lancer says that he ships Luz and Amity after they defeat Grometheus together, Royal has no idea what he's talking about. He doesn't get it until several chapters later, when Amity goes to Lancer for judgement-free advice after she shows up at the Owl House looking for Luz when the Latina's not there.
  • Cover Innocent Eyes and Ears: When he sees Hooty extracting himself from the door of the Owl House, Royal covers Luz's eyes to spare her from seeing any more.
  • Cuteness Proximity: Luz, predictably, gushes over Royal's Ghost Lancer when she first sees it.
  • Dangerous Phlebotinum Interaction: Apparently a Ghost's transmat abilities create bread monsters if someone tries using it on bread.
  • Death by Adaptation: After Luz and Eda leave, the Selkidomus and its child are killed by a Vex agent so they can turn the island they were living on into a new base.
  • Enemy Civil War: There is currently a conflict between those Vex aware of the Isles and those not, who view the Vex experimenting with magic as a deviation from their pattern.
  • Evil Learns of Outside Context: The Vex, upon discovering the Demon Realm and the magic its residents can use, turn their attention to it because, unlike the Light and Darkness, they apparently can simulate Demon Realm magic.
  • Darker and Edgier: The Owl House could already be surprisingly dark for a children's show, befitting its "horror/comedy" genre, especially in season 2, but the presence of the Vex causes it to edge into cosmic horror. Not to mention that Royal has little issue killing his foes, and he even has a nightmare in which he kills Luz.
  • Fallen Hero: In Chapter 26, we see several Guardians corrupted by the Darkness.
  • Fantastic Racism: Royal has a heavy dislike towards aliens as a result of what he's gone through, and is likewise not too thrilled about the witches and demons of the Isles.
  • Feed It with Fire: During "Might and Main", the golem on the island is able to absorb and redirect the paracausal Royal uses to try and attack it, so any time he tries using the Light on it he just gives it a temporary boost.
  • "Freaky Friday" Flip: During this story's take on "Once Upon a Swap", Royal's the one that ends up in Eda's body, while Luz ends up in his body, allowing her to use his Light powers, and giving her a taste of what it's like for a Guardian to be resurrected.
  • Heavy Sleeper: Royal manages to sleep through the events of "Hooty's Moving Hassle" without noticing that the entire house moved, much to King's incredulity.
  • In Memoriam: In an omake at the end of Chapter 28, Royal creates a memorial stone for Lance Reddick, the voice of Commander Zavala.
  • The Insomniac: Royal stays awake for over three weeks trying to decipher the Darkness glyphs on the island where King was, and by the time he finally passes out he's so tired that he mistakes Hooty for Luz.
  • Imported Alien Phlebotinum: Some Vex debris is sucked into the Boiling Isles with Royal and Lancer, and the Emperor's Coven begins experimenting with it.
  • Manipulative Editing: Synegorus has Odalia's crystal ball replaced by a a duplicate filled with Vex fluid, allowing them to give her images of specific possible futures and manipulate her into doing what the Vex want.
  • Mood-Swinger: Venator's Ghost is named "Blip" because he has brief moments where he becomes vengeful and bloodthirsty.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: Royal-6's escape from the Vex's realm not only stranded him and his Ghost in the Isles in a potential alternate timeline's past, but the Vex now know that the Demon Realm exists, and are trying to learn how to simulate magic.
  • No Sense of Direction: According to Lancer, Royal would have taken three hours to find the library, in contrast to Luz's single hour.
  • Orwellian Retcon: The new Vex form was originally named "Titan", in reference to the Boiling Isles Titan, but the author forgot that that's the name of a Guardian class as well, so it was rewritten to be "Typhon", after the gigantic figure from Greek myth who spawned numerous monsters with his wife Echidna.
  • The Power of Hate: The Vex frame Sarkarae is derived from Synegorus' hatred and bloodlust, and it even seems to be subconsciously using it to alter its shape, like adding a mouth for a psychological effect.
  • Shipper on Deck: Lancer becomes this to Luz and Amity after seeing them together at Grom, gives Amity some offscreen advice on her feelings for the human girl when she comes by the Owl House when she and Eda are out, and later teases the former about the latter after this universe's take on the events of "Through the Looking Glass Ruins".
  • Wham Episode: Chapter 15 has several major events, like an implication that Royal's former comrades are looking for him in the Vex Domain, and the revelation that the Collector is familiar with the Vex, and was apparently told about them by someone else.
    • In Chapter 28 we learn that Paladin and Venator are alternate versions of Royal from different timelines.
  • Wrong Context Magic: The magic native to the Demon Realm is not a paracasual power like the Light or Darkness is, and Lilith is amazed at how Royal can achieve his feats without using spell circles.
