It deals with Jermaine helping Mystery Inc. deal with a particularly disturbing and gruesome mystery.

- Big Eater: Scooby and Shaggy, as usual. Jermaine is also shown to be one, given how much he wolfs down junk food.
- Blind Without 'Em: Velma, as usual. This time, it happens when Jermaine accidentally bumps into her while they're exploring Ava's old house. Thankfully, he picks them up and hands them back to her.
- Commonality Connection: Ava and Jermaine bond over their shared history of suicidal thoughts, with the only difference being that she actually went through with hers.
- Dagwood Sandwich: Scooby and Shaggy eat some of these while on the road, as usual. Jermaine joins in on the sandwich eating.
- Driven to Suicide: Ava died by suicide years before the story happens. As a ghost, she refuses to talk about how and why she took her own life. Jermaine brings up his own history of suicidal thoughts and suicide attempts while talking to Ava. They quickly bond because of their shared history of suicidal thoughts, with the only difference being that she actually went through with hers.
- Dropped Glasses: Velma, as usual. This time, it happens when Jermaine accidentally bumps into her while they're exploring Ava's old house. Thankfully, he picks them up and hands them back to her.
- The Fashionista: During the first half of the story, Daphne picks out an outfit for Jermaine (which she and the rest of the gang love) and says she's never wrong when it comes to fashion.
- Get Out!: Ava's ghost screams this at Jermaine and Mystery Inc. three times as they investigate her old house.
- Let's Split Up, Gang!: Fred says this, as usual. He goes with Daphne, Scooby and Shaggy partner up with each other, and Jermaine teams up with Velma.
- Our Ghosts Are Different: Ava became a ghost after she died by suicide.
- Real After All: Ava's ghost turns out to be real.
- Rule of Three: Ava's ghost screams at Jermaine and Mystery Inc. to Get Out! of her old house three times.
