there's blood on your lies is an ongoing Pokémon Legends: Arceus fanfic written by HopeStoryteller, featuring the champion of Sinnoh herself in Hisuian times. It can be read here.

Cynthia gets sent back in time for reasons unknown, and as a historian, she's delighted! As a battler, she's unmatched. As a person, she's...something of a disaster. But it seems her presence in particular may cause ripples and unintended changes.

There's Blood on your Lies contains examples of:

  • Accidental Time Travel: Implied to be how Cynthia got to Hisui, although the details have yet to be revealed.
  • Adaptation Expansion: Both Dialga and Palkia are expanded upon, with Dialga actually becoming frenzied and Palkia coming to the rescue.
  • Adaptational Gender Identity: Volo is nonbinary in this fic, referred to with they/them pronouns.
  • Adaptational Jerkass:
    • Beni is far more critical and harsh towards Cynthia, and also stabs her in the shoulder to steal away her Pokeballs.
    • Cogita is far more critical and harsh towards Volo and Cynthia, something that makes them more than a little unhappy with her.
  • Adaptational Nice Guy: Downplayed, but Melli, while still the generally acerbic jerk he is in the game, has good reason for his nastier disposition as he doesn't respect Kamado for exiling people to die in the wilderness simply for questioning him. He even treats Cynthia far more kindly after she's exiled.
  • Adaptational Villainy: Downplayed as he's still trying to protect his home, but the fact he's willing to have his Pokemon outright try to attack and kill Cynthia makes him far more awful than the original character.
  • Badass Boast: When Cynthia is challenged by the other Forces of Nature and they ask her to bring out her champions.
Cynthia: Champions? Plural? (smirks, and gets out Garchomp's pokeball) Don’t be silly. I’m only going to need one.
  • Badass Bookworm: Cynthia is fascinated by history and archaeology, and introduces herself as a historian, but she's yet to be defeated.
  • Belated Injury Realization: Cynthia doesn't realize she was poisoned in the quelling of Lord Kleavor until she passes out.
  • Bunny-Ears Lawyer: Cynthia is a clearly intelligent and experienced pokemon trainer and historian, but happens to be very... odd in how she approaches various matters and interacts with others in various situations.
  • Criminal Found Family: The Miss Fortune sisters are shown to be very close.
  • Culture Clash: The reason for most of the interpersonal conflicts.
  • Decomposite Character: While Rei and Akari are both present in the story, Cynthia takes on the role of the protagonist in the Pokémon Legends: Arceus storyline.
  • Experienced Protagonist: Taken up to eleven. Cynthia not only arrives with her team intact, but she's the strongest trainer in Sinnoh, maybe even the world. She's even filled out a pokedex before!
  • Eye Scream: Cynthia eventually learns that the eye Volo always keeps covered is not only badly scarred, but so badly damaged that said eye is no longer in its socket.
  • Identical Stranger: Cynthia and Volo are noted to look quite similar by multiple people.
  • One-Steve Limit: Rather humorously averted, as Cynthia decides to name Flint the Cyndaquil the same thing as her coworker Flint.
  • Plagued by Nightmares: Cynthia is constantly sleep deprived due to her nightmares from both her journey and the events of Platinum.
  • Positive Friend Influence: It has been repeatedly noted by various characters how much Team Galaxy has been become a much more welcoming and helpful group since Cynthia joined them.
  • Questionable Consent: Discussed in detail. With the exception of the Master Ball, which is no longer in production, modern pokeballs can be broken out of if the pokemon does not wish to be caught. Hisuian pokeballs, on the other hand, can not. Cynthia is justifiably uncomfortable with this, but understands that Laventon is studying on a catch-and-release basis, and the more consent-friendly pokeballs will eventually be developed with time and resources. It's unfortunate, true, but it's the lesser evil and she's doing her best to mitigate the consequences.
  • Rank Scales with Asskicking: Cynthia repeatedly shows that being Sinnoh's Champion is not just a fancy title, as she's yet to lose a single Pokemon battle.
  • Related in the Adaptation: Rei and Akari are siblings and share the role of Laventon's assistant, while Cynthia takes on the role of the protagonist.
  • "The Reason You Suck" Speech: Cynthia lays into Kamado In response to her banishment.]
  • Self-Poisoning Gambit: Cynthia did this once to win an argument. Needless to say, the pokemon who poisoned her was not exactly pleased.
  • Took a Level in Kindness: Through Cynthia offering Volo a chance to try and improve themself, even after everything they did to her, Volo starts becoming a better person.
  • True Companions:
    • Cynthia is extremely close to her Pokemon.
    • Volo's Pokemon are as well, to the point of being willing to fight Cynthia to protect them even after losing their fight.
