Fanfic / The Wolf in me

Go To

The Wolf in me (sic) is a series of fanfics based on Victorious, written by Quitting Time, and is part of their larger multiverse. It follows Jade as she discovers Tori is a werewolf, and the blossoming romance between the two after Tori saves her life. Throughout it all the two make several enemies and discover that they are part of a larger multiverse. Works in it include:

  • The Wolf in me: The first story in the series, which tells the tale of how Jade is rescued by a wolf- who turns out to be Tori Vega herself- and soon finds herself in a world of supernatural creatures. She and Tori fight against the wicked vampire monarch Livia, who wants to destroy the werewolf race.
  • Worries and pressures: A one-shot, in which Jade is having trouble with her responsibilities and the pressure of having a new child on the way.
  • Just who are you anyway?: A short story where Jade is replaced with a demon and it is up to Tori to find her, with the help of others.
  • Double Trouble: A spin-off about two alternate Jades discovering that the multiverse exists. While not focused on the main versions of the characters, they do play a major role in it, and it leads directly into the Grand Finale.
  • Revenge of the Wolf: The Grand Finale, which sees Jade and Tori trying to take out Mr. X once and for all.

The series has examples of:

  • Alternate Universe Fic: The main series takes place in a universe where supernatural creatures exist, and it’s later revealed to be one of many universes that exist in the multiverse.
  • Arch-Enemy: Livia is this to Jade, due to her hurting Tori and having killed off Jade’s ancestors. Even when she dies in the first story, she continues to haunt Jade through her daughter, Claudia.
  • Asskicking Leads to Leadership: Despite being a newly-turned werewolf, Jade is immediately larger and more powerful than most other werewolves.
  • Big Bad:
    • In the original fic, Livia is the vampire leader behind the kidnappings in the first story and wants to wipe out all werewolves. She's also responsible for the massacre of the werewolf royal family. Even when she dies, she still has an influence on the plot of the villains going forward.
    • Mr. X, really Claudia, is the antagonist of the rest of the series, being behind the plot to replace Jade with a demon, running the slavery ring in Prague, and seeking revenge on Jade for the death of her mother Livia.
    • Double Trouble: The alternate Beck Oliver is the alternate Jade's abusive boyfriend and the biggest enemy of the main Jade and Tori.
  • Big Bad Wannabe: Margo in “Revenge of the Wolf” talks a good game about wanting to use Jade to have werewolves conquer humanity, but it is clear that she is just a pawn in Mr. X's game against Jade. When she dies, Mr. X simply continues on as if nothing happened.
  • Big Good: Jade becomes this once she becomes queen of the werewolves, though it takes a while for her to get used to the role.
  • Demoted to Extra: All of the group, besides Jade, Tori, and Beck, are reduced to bit players who do not affect the plot.
  • Doppelgänger Gets Same Sentiment: The spin-off Double Trouble involves alternate versions of Tori and Jade in particular travelling to alternate realities due to a device created by Robbie. At one point, one particular alternate version of Jade and Tori (referred to as 'Jadelyn and Victoria' to distinguish them from the "prime" versions) use the machine to travel to other realities to explicitly encourage their counterparts on those Earths to get together, taking it for granted that every version of Jade and Tori will have feelings for each other. That said, while the Beck of Jadelyn and Victoria's reality was an abusive manipulator, they are willing to acknowledge that not all Becks will be that bad, to the extent that they trust another alternate version of Beck to help them fake "their" Beck running away after trapping him in another universe because he tried to kill Tori.
  • Even Evil Has Loved Ones: Mr. X is a Diabolical Mastermind who runs slavery rings and is a detestable individual, but she does love her late mother Livia.
  • Evil Me Scares Me: In "Double Trouble", the more benevolent Beck is clearly disturbed to learn more about his counterpart, particularly when he finds clues that his counterpart may have been planning to become a serial killer.
  • Framing the Guilty Party: In "Double Life", after the alternate psycho Beck is banished to another universe, another alternate Beck assists in setting up a cover story where his counterpart was killed while trying to run away to Mexico after a fight with the "local" Jade and Tori.
  • The Heavy: Gerda is this to Mr. X in “Just who are you anyway?”, as while she is following Mr. X's plan she is the one who does the work of capturing Jade and replacing her with a demon.
  • Hijacked by Ganon: Downplayed; Livia, the first fic's antagonist, is killed off at the end. Mr. X, the villain for the rest of the series, initially appears to be a completely unrelated villain. It turns out that she is Livia's adopted daughter who is Avenging the Villain.
  • I'm a Humanitarian: Margo is revealed to be a renegade werewolf, meaning that she breaks the rules of her kind and kills people for food.
  • Leeroy Jenkins: Jade spends some time preparing the werewolves to strike against the vampires' global bases, but when the group of vampires she and Tori are watching take Cat and Beck hostage, the two are forced to dive in immediately to save their friends from becoming vampires. That said, once their friends are safe they take steps to make it appear as though the base is still under vamp control to keep their opponents off-guard.
  • Mama Bear: Tori is super protective of her and Jade’s children. When Margo claims that she is going to raise their kids as maneaters like herself, Tori makes sure to kill her as painfully as possible.
  • Manipulative Bitch: Margo tricks Jade and Tori into trusting her so she could put Jade under a mind-control spell for Mr. X.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: The alternate universe spin-off "Double Trouble" features alternate versions of Jade and Tori (referred to as Jadelyn and Victoria to distinguish them from the "local" versions) transferred into another reality where Jade and Tori are dating. At one point, after Victoria is rejected by Jadelyn, she and Tori get drunk enough that they decide to give Jade a Twin Threesome Fantasy, but later on Tori realises that Jade was sober enough that she agreed to this with the goal of basically throwing the relationship Jadelyn could have with Victoria in her counterpart's face. Tori is outraged that Jade did something like that to hurt another version of herself when Jadelyn has already been through a harsh life. Later on, Victoria tries to convince Jadelyn that she wants a relationship with her after they've returned home, but Jadelyn is so bitter at her past that Victoria ends up hitting her in frustration, only to be horrified when Jadelyn immediately becomes submissive and apologetic in response, realising that Jadelyn has come to expect that kind of treatment.
  • Really Royalty Reveal: Tori and her mother quickly realise that Jade is descended from a werewolf family even if Jade isn't a werewolf herself at first, but it's only after Jade is attacked by a vampire that they realise that Jade is actually the last living descendant of the lost werewolf royal family.
  • Right for the Wrong Reasons:
    • When the vampires see Tori wearing a distinctive jewel-encrusted 'F' necklace, they assume that she is a descendant of the lost werewolf royal family. In reality, the pendant was an heirloom of Jade's family that she had just given to Tori, but the sentiment behind it essentially applies as Tori is Jade's mate.
    • Although Tori initially objects to Jade having her taken away before the final battle with Livia, she concedes that Jade was right when she later realises that she's pregnant.
  • Samus Is a Girl: The mysterious crime lord Mr. X is actually the wizard Claudia.
  • Twin Threesome Fantasy: During "Double Trouble", when Jadelyn and Victoria are transferred into another reality, Victoria and Tori get drunk enough that they decide to have a threesome with Jade, wearing different-coloured lingerie and a bandage to cover up the tattoo that is the only difference between them.
  • Villainous Legacy: While Livia dies at the end of the first story, she continues to affect the heroes' lives. A vampire she imprisoned attacks Jade and Tori’s kids in one story. Her daughter is the villain for the rest of the series, trying to get revenge for her death. Margo's revealed to have been previously working for her. The only story she doesn’t have any impact in is “Double Trouble”, and even then, she's mentioned by Jade.
  • You Are Better Than You Think You Are: After Victoria's My God, What Have I Done? moment above, Jadelyn is able to quickly assure her that she's far better than Beck, as Jadelyn can see that Victoria truly regrets hitting her where there was also an edge of bitterness in Beck's "apologies" after he hit Jadelyn.
  • Young and in Charge: Jade becomes the Queen of the werewolves due to her being the last descendant of the long-lost royal bloodline even though she's literally only just been turned a few days before she makes her public introduction to the wider werewolf population.
