The Hospital Toys is a 2024 fanfiction based on The Toy Castle. It is a part of The Kedabory Verse.

The story is set several years after the end of the canon series. Now that the children have grown up, the toys have been donated to a children's hospital. There, they live in a new castle, and befriend a new set of children and even a few new toys.

Tropes:

  • Adapted Out: The mice family from the original series do not appear here.
  • Alliterative Title: "Soldier School".
  • Amicable Exes: Toyed with; in "Just Friends", the children have a play wedding with the Goblin and the Winter Princess, which the toys all believe is real. Goblin and Princess are horrified, and avoid each other, as they don't was to be married to each other. The Ballerina and the China Doll hold a "Friendship Ceremony", where the Goblin and the Winter Princess annul the marriage and instead declare that they will just be friends, which makes them both happy.
  • Attention Deficit... Ooh, Shiny!: In "Soldier School", the Goblin can't help but fidget and make noises in his seat, much to the Soldier's frustration. The Goblin, unable to help himself, thinks he's just not a good student, until the Strongman gets the idea to lend him Meow Meow to hold during the lesson. Meow Meow, serving as a fidget toy, helps the Goblin keep focused, and in the end, the Soldier praises him for how well he does with his lessons. This chapter also introduces a human boy with ADHD, and upon learning of the condition, the toys believe that the Goblin may have ADHD as well, since he always has so much energy.
  • Canon Foreigner: The Winter Princess, a new toy made just for the hospital. She takes on the form of a delicate princess doll, who is implied to be magical.
  • Continuation Fic: Picks up several years after the series ended.
  • Disabled in the Adaptation: "Soldier School" implies that the Goblin has ADHD, something that was never brought up in the original series.
  • An Ice Person: The Winter Princess, an ice-themed toy who always has cold hands.
  • I Have Many Names: Toyed with in "Alice and Lucy"; the children have so many different names for the Ragdoll, including Alice, Lucy, and Natalie, that she begins to forget who she really is. The China Doll shows her that no matter what the children call her, she will always be Ragdoll at the end of the day.
  • Just Friends: Discussed in Chapter 4, which is indeed titled "Just Friends". The children hold a play wedding with the Gobling and the Winter Princess, which the toys all believe is real. Goblin and Princess don't want to be married, as Goblin isn't interested in romance and Princess is waiting for her knight in frozen armour. In the end, they decide to annul the marriage via a friendship ceremony and just be friends from then on.
  • Mass "Oh, Crap!": Most of the toys panic in Chapter 1 when they see their new home.
  • Only Sane Man: The Soldier is the only one who doesn't panic in Chapter 1 after the toys have been donated, explaining he heard the children's nanny saying that the kids grew up and never played with the toys anymore and that they've been given to a new home. When everyone starts wondering why, the Soldier orders everyone to settle down and says that of course the kids still love them, it's just that big people don't play with toys forever and maybe this new place will give them new children to play with. He then turns around and suggests they explore the new castle.
  • Shout-Out: The Winter Princess is initially afraid of goblins, as she has been told that they will sprinkle evil into her eyes and turn her into seafoam.
  • Spoiler Title: Chapter 4 is called "Just Friends", which indicates what the Goblin and the Winter Princess decide to be at the end.
  • True Blue Femininity: The Winter Princess wears a blue dress.
