This work contains examples of:
- The Atoner: David's main motivation. After realising that not only all of the crimes he and the others committed as part of Cauldron amounted to nothing, but his personal drive to find worthy opponents also led to the awakening of the Endbringers, causing the death of millions worldwide, he is now dead set on making things right in the new world.
- Mythology Gag: Eidolon kills Corb the same way Skitter killed Alexandria in the original.
- Outside-Context Problem: David is this to the world of The Dresden Files. His versatile powerset, combined with years of fighting and leadership experience as part of the PRT makes him someone to be reckoned with in the new world, too.
- Trapped in Another World: Initially, David wants to go back to Earth Bet to help in the fight against Scion. However, Uriel doesn't let him to do that, because "his presence would do more harm than good".
- Wrong Context Magic: The source of David's powers is a mystery to the denizens of The Dresden Files universe. He is not a knight of the faerie court. He doesn't have a god or goddess as a patron. He is not a Denarian, nor does he have magic ancestry, and in fact, barely leaks any magic at all. Although this does get deconstructed, as even when he tells the White Council the truth about the origin of his powers, they are reluctant to help his new, local PRT organisation, fearing that he may have got his power from an Outsider.
