Go To

The Blade of the Void, by DestrinBriar is a crossover fic between Mega Man X/Zero series and The Familiar of Zero where Louise summons Zero as her familiar.

The story starts the same way as The Familiar of Zero, but since Zero is from the 24th century slowly deviates from the original novel as the story continues.

Tropes:

  • Angel Unaware: X is disguised as Charity to keep Zero in the dark about his true identity
  • The Atoner: Colbert, for burning Agnes' hometown, and Leviathan for all the damage she did under the control of Joseph.
  • Badass Adorable: Roll for being able to floor zero with a broom and remaining a kindhearted as ever.
  • Badass in Distress: Tabitha and also Fairy Leviathan, see Brainwashed and Crazy.
  • Berserk Button: Do not threaten or try to harm the people under Zero's protection just ask Bidalshal, Fouquet, Wardes, Eleonore, and Karen. He also doesn't take being called a hero very well.
  • Brainwashed and Crazy: Leviathan was subjugated by the control runes, courtesy of being Myozunitonirun, placed on her by King Joseph. Luckily, she was eventually freed by Zero and joined his side
  • Big Damn Heroes: Zero has this in his job description. X isn't too shabby either, after saving both Zero and Rock from potentially fatal injuries as Charity.
  • The Captain: Wardes as knight captain of the Griffin Knights and eventually Zero after his stint in the zero fighter to save Tarbes
  • The Chains of Commanding: Henrietta struggles with her role as princess and eventually queen of Tristain and is horribly guilt ridden and self-depreciating for anything that goes wrong.
  • Chick Magnet: Zero with a double digit number of girls pinning after him after witnessing his heroics.
  • Damsel in Distress: Henrietta after being kidnapped by a resurrected Prince Wales, courtesy of the Ring of Andvari.
  • The Dreaded: You know Zero is this when even the undead Whales and the Water Spirit is afraid of you with the latter taking Iris', and later Louise's, form as a survival instinct.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: Even Weil was repulsed by Joseph's insanity and incompetence as a king.
  • Face–Heel Turn: Tabitha fights Zero in chapter 54 in order to keep her mother safe.
  • Fish out of Water: Zero, who spent most of his life in combat, is not very good at dealing with the relatively peaceful life in Halkeginia.
  • Heartbroken Badass: Zero is still troubled by his retiring of Iris and cried when he thought of Ciel.
  • Heel–Face Turn: Fouquet/Matilda and Leviathan
  • Heroic RRoD: Zero after the battle of Saxe-Gotha when he overloaded himself with runes of Gandalf.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: Narrowly subverted by both Zero and Rock, after the former overloaded himself and the latter defended Matilda from pantheon busters.
  • Hold the Line: Zero managed to hold back an army of over one million troops at Saxe-Gotha.
  • I'm Not a Hero, I'm...: Zero under no circumstances sees himself as a hero, but as a monster who killed far too many.
  • Mangst: Zero and after everything he has been through, it is easy to see why.
  • Manly Tears: Zero, especially after seeing Iris again in the form of Axl taking the form of her Cyber-elf self and during Matilda's temporary death
  • No Social Skills: As a combat Reploid, Zero has the social graces of a mule as shown with his interactions with Henrietta and Leviathan.
  • One-Man Army: Zero is powerful enough to stop two armies: the one after Wardes' betrayal, and the one at Saxe-Gotha.
  • Open Mouth, Insert Foot: Zero really shouldn't call X a coward during his date with Leviathan, even if he meant it as a compliment.
  • Red Baron: Zero as the 'God of Destruction'.
  • Tsundere: Louise. She gets better, though.
  • Underestimating Badassery: Underestimating Zero is a good way to get your ass handed to you.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: Zero and Roll do not take it well when When Axl showed Iris' form to Henrietta, allowing her to take her appearance during the ball in chapter 54.
