There is a possibility you have heard of the infinite universe theory, or the multiverse theory. In case you haven't, the theory states that for every single possible outcome, change or decision possible in this world, a new alternate timeline is created for it. For example, if you wake up one morning, and try to decide if you want cereal or oatmeal, you have just created two new timelines - one where you choose oatmeal, and another with cereal.

The start of The Alleviating Aftermath, Chapter One

The Alleviating Aftermath is an on-going fanfiction story by Complete Indie. It is a fanfiction for A Series of Unfortunate Events.

The story deviates starting from book the twelfth, The Penultimate Peril, although the story does more closely follow the Netflix series rather than the books.

This miserable fanfic provides examples of:

• Adults Are Useless: Subverted, which is ironic considering the original story. The two main adults in the series, Kit and Dewey, both prove to be rather competent, and you would have to include Lemony for managing to write the whole story. Ellington Feint is also most certainly capable, hypnotizing Violet in remarkable times, and managing to manipulate Lemony into summoning the Bombinating Beast.
• Affectionate Nickname: Klaus, Duncan, and Quigley all refer to Isadora as 'Izzy'.
• Alternate Universe: The series deviates from the original by having the Quagmire triplets meet the Baudelaire children at the Hotel Denouement. It also removes Dewey's death, and rescues Kit.
  • This doesn't save the Hotel Denouement however. It still burns down, albeit later, in The Sinister Secrecy.
• Blackmail: Ellington's only real leverage in The Sinister Secrecy. A lot of it. Hypnotized Violet, and clearly no qualms of making Violet shoot everyone she holds dear, herself included.
• Breaking the Fourth Wall: The start of The Alleviating Aftermath does this, as Lemony outright acknowledges that this is a fanfiction, in the sense of being a timeline that never happened that could have.
  • On a slightly smaller scale, he acknowledges that you are reading on Archive of Our Own.
• The Bus Came Back: Ellington Feint, in The Sinister Secrecy.
• Foreshadowing:
  • Ellington Feint is mentioned as soon as Chapter One in The Sinister Secrecy. Her famous question mark eyebrows are described in chapters 4 and 7 as well.
  • Violet and Isadora's secret in The Abysmal Addiction is hinted at in the two chapters prior.
• The Leader: Violet is one of these, although subtle. She's the eldest of the children, and she (even in canon) the one they turn to when they need help.
  • Subverted heavily in The Sinister Secrecy, although for good reason. She was brainwashed and forced to shoot her siblings.
• Lemony Narrator: The writer tries to imitates Lemony Snicket's unique writing style, so this is kind of a given.
  • The author goes so far as to have responded to many of the comments in a Lemony style.
• Retcon: From time to time, the author will go back and add in minor fixes.
  • In The Sinister Secrecy, originally there was less focus on Ellington and more focus on Dr. Orwell, as well as her implied to exist brother. The plot was likely different.
  • In The Fun Festivities, the author edited in how there was two kinds of eggnog, and how both cartons were empty. This later became relevant when we find out Violet, Isadora, and Quigley all have a small drinking problem.
• Shout-Out: Quite a few.
  • The start of Chapter Two in The Sinister Secrecy holds a reference to Jevil from Deltarune, even calling out his theme song, The World Revolving.
  • Chapter Six in The Sinister Secrecy references Bendy and the Ink Machine and its villain, Joey Drew, including bits of his tape recordings and listing his crimes, which seems to imply a greater story.
    He was later arresting for various crimes, including abuse of power, theft, fraud, and murdering, torturing, and dismembering his staff, in that order.
  • Gravity Falls. Dewey and Klaus both know the jokes Grunkle Stan says in Episode 2 of Gravity Falls, and there's even a similar bit to what was written in the journal about horrible puns.
    Neither of them will have the pleasure of having their subpar jokes written down in this book.
    Well, I'm not going to give him the satisfaction of having any of them written down in this journal.
• Self-Insert Fic
  • Quigley. The author has outright stated due to issues writing the character, he's giving Quigley his own personality whenever he draws blanks.
    "You know, if this isn't the best Christmas they've ever had, I think we should stop celebrating too." Quigley said, smirking. Only to be hit upside the head by Isadora.
  • In-universe example, Lemony himself. He shows up in The Sinister Secrecy and later becomes Vice Principal of Prufrock Prep. The original series also did this however.
• Snicket Warning Label: Just like Lemony Narrator, the author writes like the original.
  • Somewhat averted in The Abysmal Addiction, when the author gives a serious warning in regards to possible triggers with a high focus on alcohol addictions.
• Suspiciously Specific Denial: The description of The Complete Compilation.
  This story is not recommended, because it does not exist. In case I wasn't clear enough, The Complete Compilation does not exist, nor does it contain Christmas, birthdays, alcoholism, school, or guests.
  It does not exist.
• The Alcoholic: Violet, Isadora, and Quigley. The story even confirms years later they go into rehab.
