Go To

Tarzana, published on FFN by 2000sChildhoodCartoons, is a fanfiction based on the Disney film Tarzan from 1999.

Story-wise, it is an almost exact retelling of the original film, but with one major twist: The two main characters, Tarzan and Jane, are gender flipped, and are renamed Tarzana and John.

Note: All Spoilers are unmarked. You have been warned.

This Fanfiction contains examples of:

  • Adaptational Badass: Minor example. While Tarzan was a huge badass thanks to his Jungle upbringing, he did have an Achilles' Heel in the form of groin attacks, as seen during the bamboon chase. Tarzana, on the other hand, doesn't have this problem.
  • Adaptation Expansion: Aside from retelling the plot of the original film, several scenes were added to give characterisation to certain characters that didn't get much focus in the film.
  • Amazon Chaser: John not only falls in love with Tarzana after she saves him from the baboons, but in the end he decides to abandon his old life to stay with her in the jungle.
  • Boyfriend-Blocking Dad: Implied to be one of the reasons Kerchak wants Tarzana to stay away from the humans:
At the time he ignored it but now that everything had settled some, an almost fatherly feeling came to Kerchak at the thought of the young male with Tarzana. He did not like how he smelled of her. Kerchak figured that she had chosen the young male as a potential mate. Now Tarzana had been of age of choosing a mate for a few years even though she never did. Kerchak did not like this male, he was not right for her as a mate.
  • Canon Foreigner: In the form of Henry, who is the Captain of the ship that shipwrecked with Tarzana's human parents on board. We also learn that Henry is a year long friend of the human couple.
  • The Cover Changes the Gender: The lyrics of the film's soundtrack, composed and sung by Phill Collins, were incorporated into the story. Where it became necessary due to the protagonist's Gender Flip, parts of the lyrics were changed accordingly. For Instance, Son of Man was changed to Daughter of Woman.
  • Dirty Old Man: Clayton displays signs of this towards Tarzana. During their first meeting, when he realises that she is fully nude from the waist up, his only reaction is to smirk and gaze at her lustfully. Later, after Tarzana gets captured by Clayton's henchmen, he caresses her hair in a creepy way before declaring that he plans to sell her to the "Exotic Dancers".
  • Effortless Amazonian Lift: After killing Sabor, Tarzana lifts her dead body over her head in Triumph. She later easily carries John with just one hand while swinging through vines to escape the bamboons.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: Although Clayton is a ruthless poacher and lusts after the much younger Tarzana, he wouldn't lust after her if he knew that they were related, according to Word of God at least.
  • Innocent Fanservice Girl: Tarzana was completely unaware of the taboo connceted with nudity until John told her about it.
John: You see, in England women have something to cover their chests. I have made you something to try on...
    Tarzana: Why?
John: Well, it is seen as something scandalous where a woman is seen without a shirt. [...] I'll explain more later on.
  • Jungle Princess: The titular Heroine is this just by the virtue of being a genderflipped version of Tarzan.
  • Ms. Fanservice: Tarzana spends the majority of the story wearing only a loincloth...without a top. She starts wearing a top after John asks her to try it, but by the end of the story she is going topless again.
  • Named by the Adaptation: In the story, Terk's mother's name is given as Zuri, and we also learn that she is Kala's sister.
  • Pink Means Feminine: Kala discovers an infant Tarzana wiggling underneath a pink blanket.
  • Raging Stiffie: John experiences one as a result of Tarzana pressing his head against her chest so he can feel her heartbeat.
  • Related in the Adaptation:
    • Subverted with Tarzana and Clayton. In the original Tarzan Novels by Edgar Rice Burroughs, Tarzan and Clayton were cousins. While this was never mentioned in the Disney film this fanfiction is based off, in this story it is stated directly that Tarzana and Clayton are cousins.
    • Averted with Tarzana and Terk, as they have already been adoptive cousins in the film. The only difference is that here this is directly said and acknowledged multiple times by various characters.
  • Sarcasm Mode: Terk's response after Tarzana tells her she wants the humans to meet the Gorillas:
Terk: Oh really? And how do you think that'll go. "Hey Kerchak! Meet the humans I was supposed to avoid whom I smuggled into the nesting grounds so they could see us!" That's rich. He'll run them out of there before you can say "I'm sorry".
