Fanfic / Stargate: Spartan Siege

Go To

Stargate: Spartan Siege is a fanfic by Johnnieboy11, and is a crossover between Halo and Stargate SG-1.

Through means unknown, Cortana and John-117 end up in the Stargate universe on a world that SG-1 just happened to be exploring. Circumstances result in the two groups meeting, and with no other viable options, John decides to follow them to their Earth to try and unravel the mystery of how he arrived here.

  • Always Someone Better: Zigzagged - while the Goa'uld are noted to have far more efficient plasma weapons than the Covenant (a zat takes out over 85% of Chief's shields in one hit), they're far more fractious and much less effective in battle.
  • Birds of a Feather: Platonic example - Teal'c and Thel get along very well when the latter finally appears, due to having similar cultures and positions before joining the side of humanity.
  • Contrasting Sequel Antagonist: When comparing the Goa'uld to the Covenant, John notes that both are theocratic empires who put divine impetus to the destruction of Earth's forces and have a penchant for Energy Weapons, but are otherwise quite different - the Goa'uld openly portrayed themselves as gods while the Covenant merely claim to be on the path to godhood, the Covenant are much more racially diverse than the Goa'uld who prefer human hosts, the Goa'uld want humanity as slaves while the Covenant wanted mankind wiped out, and finally, the Goa'uld are far more disorganized than the Covenant ever were, as even in the worst moments of being a Decadent Court, the Covenant was never actively at war with itself (keep in mind John knows nothing of the Banished at this point), while the System Lords regularly fight over who gets to be emperor.
  • Contrived Coincidence: SG-1 and John are surprised to discover that the SG version of Reach matches up almost exactly to the Halo one. John assumes the Forerunners have something to do with it.
  • Early-Bird Cameo: The Replicators are given a mention in Chapter 6, where it's implied they were the entities to attack the SG-version of Reach. When they finally appear in full in Chapter 8, John and Cortana wonder if they were what Exultation was talking about. Shore Leave confirms that it was the Replicators, who have evolved since the previous fight.
  • Entertainingly Wrong: Since the UNSC uses the same ranks as the forces of the United States, Hammond initially assumes that John is from the Navy after hearing that he is a Master Chief Petty Officer.
  • Fantastic Racism: Downplayed, but Patient Exultation does not think highly of the Goa'uld, outright calling them thieves. She doesn't extend this to Teal'c, though, and even pities him over his Jaffa nature meaning that he is stuck with the symbiote in his pouch.
  • Mythology Gag: When John asks permission to be the one to carry the bomb to destroy the Replicators in Nemesis, his dialogue is a refernece to when he bombed the Assault Carrier in Halo 2.
John: Permission to leave the ship?
    Jack: What for, Chief?
John: To give these critters the parting gift myself.
  • Noodle Incident: Patient Exultation, while discussing the history of her installation, reveals that it was attacked by what is heavily implied to be the Replicators at some point in the past. The details left are sparse, though, with the only thing known being that, due to facility degradation from age, the Forerunner facility would probably be unable to beat them again in the present.
  • Not So Above It All:
    • When Jack asks John how Mia meat tastes, John actually thinks back to the last time he had a moa MRE before realizing he can't remember the taste and says that he has heard it is good.
    • When Teal'c makes a reference to Neil Armstrong's "One Small Step for Man" line when preparing to do a spacewalk, John actually smirks and mentally admits that it was a good line.
  • Odd Name Out: 096 Patient Exultation breaks the trend started by 343 Guilty Spark in that her name does not involve something relating to guilt, while her numerical designation is not a power of seven (or even divisible evenly by seven, for that matter). Justified because she is not the monitor of a Halo installation, as this Theme Naming extends only to the monitors associated with Halo rings.
  • Offscreen Moment of Awesome: A conversation with 096 Patient Exultation while SG-1 visits the Stargate version of Reach reveals that Exultation's forces fought off the Replicators at some point prior to the story.
  • Outside-Context Problem: John is this to Stargate Command, as they've never encountered a time traveler from an alternate universe - they have experience with both, just not with both simultaneously.
  • Ragnarök Proofing: Subverted for once regarding the Forerunners - while still relatively intact, their Installation on the Stargate version of Reach shows visible wear from the passage of time, with several of the surrounding tunnels having collapsed due to ongoing natural processes. Addrionally, the installation's monitor, 096 Patient Exultation, reveals it lost most of its constructor sentinels when the facility was attacked by an unknown enemy (heavily implied to be the Replicators), making repairs difficult.
  • Stereotype Flip: The majority of monitors encountered in Halo tend to be rather trigger happy and sociopathic. The sole monitor in this story, Patient Exultation, is much friendlier and more bubbly, apparently on account of two facts - her installation not being designed to combat the Flood, and maintaining contact with her fellow monitors in the Stargate universe.
  • Suspiciously Similar Substitute: John mentally notes that the Replicators are exactly what he'd expect a mechanical version of the Flood to be.
  • Wham Episode: Chapter 8, Nemesis: the Replicators make their canonical debut, and when Thro beaks up O'Neil to assist in defeating them, John and Cortana get pulled along for the ride. The ensuing fight and effort to destroy Thor’s ship results in Cortana being revealed to SG-1, and another character from Halo finally makes an appearance… and it is Foehammer.
