* ContrastingSequelAntagonist: When comparing the Goa'uld to the Covenant, John notes that both are theocratic empires who put divine impetus to the destruction of Earth's forces and have a penchant for EnergyWeapons, but are otherwise quite different - the Goa'uld openly portrayed themselves as gods while the Covenant merely claim to be on the path to godhood, the Covenant are much more racially diverse than the Goa'uld who prefer human hosts, the Goa'uld want humanity as slaves while the Covenant wanted mankind wiped out, and finally, the Goa'uld are ''far'' more disorganized than the Covenant ever were, as even in the worst moments of being a DecadentCourt, the Covenant was never actively at war with itself (keep in mind John knows nothing of the Banished at this point), while the System Lords actively fight over who gets to be emperor.

* StereotypeFlip: The majority of monitors encountered in ''Halo'' tend to be rather trigger happy and sociopathic. The sole monitor in this story, Patient Exultation, is much friendlier and more bubbly, apparently on account of two facts - her installation not being designed to combat the Flood, and maintaining contact with her fellow monitors in the ''Stargate'' universe.

* RagnarokProofinf: {{Subverted|Trope}} for once regarding the Forerunners - while still relatively intact, their Installation on the ''Stargate'' version of Reach shows visible wear from the passage of time, with several of the surrounding tunnels having collapsed due to ongoing natural processes. Addrionally, the installation's monitor, 096 Patient Exultation, reveals it lost most of its constructor sentinels when the facility was attacked by an unknown enemy (heavily implied to be the Replicators), making repairs difficult.

* FantasticRacism: {{Downplayed|Trope}}, but Patient Exultation does not think highly of the Goa'uld, outright calling them thieves. She doesn't extend this to Teal'c, though, and even pities him over his Jaffa nature meaning that he is stuck with the symbiote in his pouch.

* OddNameOut: 096 Patient Exultation breaks the trend started by 343 Guilty Spark in that her name does not involve something relating to guilt, while her numerical designation is not a power of seven (or even divisible evenly by seven, for that matter). Justified because she is not the monitor of a Halo installation.

Through means unknown, Cortana and John-117 end up in the Stargate universe on a world that SG-1 just happened to be exploring. Circumstances result in the two groups meeting, and with no other viable options, John decides to follow them to their Earth to try and unravel the mystery of how he arrived here.

* ContrivedCoincidence: SG-1 and John are surprised to discover that the SG version of Reach matches up almost exactly to the Halo one. John assumes the Forerunners have something to do with it.
* EntertaininglyWrong: Since the UNSC uses the same ranks as the forces of the United Stares, Hammond initially assumes that John is from the Navy after hearing that he is a Master Chief Petty Officer.
* NoodleIncident: Patient Exultation, while discussing the history of her installation, reveals that it was attacked by what is heavily implied to be the Replicators at some point in the past. The details left are sparse, though, with the only thing known being that, due to facility degradation from age, the Forerunner facility would probably be unable to beat them again in the present.
* OutsideContextProblem: John is this to Stargate Command, as they've never encountered a time traveler from an alternate universe - they have experience with both, just not with both simultaneously.
