The premise of the story is exploring what would've happened if Treat's pack didn't separate from their previous one when she was little.
This fic provides examples of the following tropes:
- Adaptational Jerkass: Because of different circumstances, Treat grows up to be a much more aggressive, uncaring person.
- Adaptational Nice Girl: Fennel is portrayed as less aggressive and more passive in trying to win Treat's affection.
- Adaptational Villainy: Moxie's mom was already verbally abusive towards her, and here she gets physical as well.
- Adaptational Wimp: While her mom always freaked her out in the original series, Moxie still remained adamant about disowning her. Here, she instead ends up being subjected to so much abuse that she becomes nothing but a shadow of her former self.
- Alliterative Title: Shifted Story.
- Canon Foreigner: The unnamed pack leader.
- Mama Bear: Candy is not pleased with the pack leader when he hurts Treat.
- I Lied: The pack leader's deal to Cotton and Candy is to leave Treat unharmed if they stay. Then after they stay, he decides to punish them both by slashing Treat.
- Papa Wolf: Cotton is prepared to take punishment from the pack leader to spare Treat.
- Sadistic Choice: The pack leader gives this to Cotton and Candy.Pack Leader: Now. Listen up. I'll give you a choice. You could leave right now, I'll let you go without problem. But Treat here..she might not be so lucky. Or, you could stay and nothing will happen to her.
- Would Hurt a Child: The pack leader has no problem slashing an infant Treat to stop her parents from leaving.
