Fanfic / Saint Clementine Of Brockton Bay

Go To

Saint Clementine of Brockton Bay is a crossover fanfic between Worm and the Koream MMORP Dungeon Fighters Online, written by BeiYang on Space Battles.

A few days before the Locker Incident, Madison's realisation that she's complicit in actively torturing Taylor causes her to gain a Female Priest's abilities. Unsure of what she's intended to do with these powers, she nonetheless decides to use them for good.

Contains the following tropes

  • Asshole Victim: A bunch of Empire troopers assault an Asian couple — to the point that the woman was dying before getting healed by Clementine's prayer — chase them in a church to finish the job and when someone looking like a nun attempt to make them depart, they attempt to assault her too. You really won't feel bad when Clementine teaches them the error of their ways.
  • Confess in Confidence: After the Locker Incident, Madison dons her costume and asks Father O'Connor to let her use the confessional, in which she admits her responsability in the bullying and her need to make amends. O'Connor praises her desire to be a better person but tells her she has to directly help Taylor for that, and it won't be an easy road.
  • Crisis of Faith: Since the Parahumans have started to appear, there's a great deal less of believers. The Endbringers sowing chaos and destruction everywhere are mentioned to have been very bad for maintaining the Abrahamic faiths.
  • Environmental Symbolism: The decayed and broken state of Clementine's church reflects the Crisis of Faith Earth is suffering from due to the apocalyptic actions of the Endbringers.
  • Good Shepherd: Father O'Connor is tasked with taking care of St Michael's Church. He encourages Madison to be a better person and to open her clinic.
  • Healing Hands: Clementine's most used power is her Healing Prayer. She opens a clinic in St Michael's Church for the homeless and Miss Militia warns her that gangs will try to forcibly recruit her for this.
  • Heel–Faith Turn: What prompts Madison to repent for her bullying is receiving a religious revelation.
  • Heel Realization: Madison's information began when she saw a homeless man being tormented in that exact same way she tormented Taylor.
  • Heroic Neutral: Clementine doesn't care about joining a gang or becoming a Ward, wishing to be left alone to operate her clinic and repent her sins.
  • Heroic Self-Deprecation: Madison frequently self-flagellates herself thinking that what she's done to Taylor makes her unworthy of wonderous powers.
  • Hollywood Nuns: Madison's cape identity dresses in a nun habit — with a veil hiding her face — heals through prayer, can summon crosses to fight and is mainly operating in a Catholic church, but she believes in a Crystal Dragon Jesus and feels deeply awkward when the homeless community calls her "sister" and treats her as a Catholic Roman nun.
  • Humble Goal: Candidates for the Protectorate and the Wards tend to have lofty ambitions, dreaming to fix the world with their own hands. Clementine merely wants to gain some money for the Church she frequents to replace their broken front door — Miss Militia is a bit dumbfounded because it's that humble.
  • In Spite of a Nail: Taylor still winds up in the locker, and still spends several weeks in the hospital even with Madison letting her out sooner and casting a Healing Prayer.
  • The One Thing I Don't Hate About You: Madison doesn't care for Gladly, but he does respect his knowledge and dedication to the materials he teaches.
  • Mugging the Monster: The Empire goons that attempted to attack Clementine believed she was a helpless nun preventing them from committing murder. They quickly regretted it.
  • Must Make Amends: Madison is very remorseful for what she did to Taylor, and Father O'Connor encourages her to directly ask for Taylor's forgiveness.
  • Reformed Bully: In order to make amends for tormenting Taylor, Madison decides to become Clementine and do good actions.
  • Religious Bruiser: Clementine believes in a Crystal Dragon Jesus and can wield prayers and crosses to heal and fight, as a Priest type.
  • Street Urchin: Susanna and her brother Isaac are living in the sewers with several other kids. They don't know how to write and regularly visit the church for food.
