SWAT Kats: Foundation of Trust
is a SWAT Kats fanfic that explores the world of the show through the eyes of T-Bone, Razor, Callie, and Felina.
There is a sequel called SWAT Kats: Transitions that is currently ongoing.
SWAT Kats: Foundation of Trust and its sequel provides examples of:
- Aw, Look! They Really Do Love Each Other: They bicker all the time, but the Metallikats genuinely do love each other. As such, Mac is devastated when Molly is killed.
- Big Bad: Dark Kat is setting up to be this in the sequel.
- Chronic Backstabbing Disorder: Dark Kat does this to everyone he teams up with. As a result, he kills Mac after getting the SWAT Kats' Secret Identity out of him and turns Hard Drive into a Living Battery after the latter tries to go his own way after a short team up.
- Destructive Saviour: The SWAT Kats save the day without regard for any collateral damage.
- Heterosexual Life-Partners: There are two pairs in this story.
- T-Bone/Chance and Razor/Jake are best of friends and only have each other to depend on. At least at first.
- Callie and Felina become best friends and love spending their free time together. It apparently gets Mistaken for Gay, with there being rumors of the two being in a relationship.
- Head-Turning Beauty: Callie is repeatedly referred to as a beautiful kat. She is not unaware of this, though she wishes kats would stop undressing her with their eyes when she dresses up for high class parties.
- Hidden Depths: Mayor Manx is revealed to be aware of the downward spiral Megakat City is in and is painfully aware that he is not equipped to fix it. That is the reason he hired Callie as Deputy Mayor, in order to groom her as his replacement. He is confident that she is right cat for the job and the Mayor the city will need and depend on in the future.
- Jerkass Has a Point: Commander Feral is correct in saying that the SWAT Kats are vigilantes, which is illegal, as well as the fact that they cause tremendous collateral damage.
- Killed Off for Real: This finally happens to the Metallikats. Molly is finished by the SWAT Kats and Felina, while Mac is taken care of by Dark Kat.
- Living Battery: Hard Drive is turned into one by Dark Kat to power his new suit.
- The Masquerade Will Kill Your Dating Life: Jake decides to not pursue a relationship with Callie because of the fact that he is a SWAT Kat and is keeping it a secret from her. Subverted when the two decide to try being in a relationship after she finds out.
- Mistaken for Gay: To Callie's surprise, she learns that there are rumors of her and Felina being a couple.
- Persona Non Grata: As a result of being dishonorably discharged, almost everyone in Jake and Chance's lives refuse to be associated with them. It's to the point that Jake's father didn't want him to attend his own mother's funeral.
- Riches to Rags: Pumadyne, a big company that creates new weapons and vehicles for the Enforcers, declares bankruptcy after Hard Drive is able to get away with all of their funds.
- Secret-Keeper: Professor Hackle figured out the SWAT Kats' identities and lets Razor know. Callie and Felina also figure it out later and decide to help the two out as much as possible.
- Tank-Top Tomboy: Felina towards the end of Foundation of Trust wears an olive green tank top.
- Took a Level in Badass: Callie is much more capable in a fight thanks to getting lessons from Felina, Chance, and Jake.
- Tragic Keepsake: The green sedan Callie drives, a '64 longclaw, was her father's car and is all she has left of him, so she refuses to replace it, even when it's faulty. At the recommendation of an auto mechanic, she takes it to Jake and Chance's garage and relies on them to help her fix it and keep it running. She is heartbroken when it is totaled in an accident caused by a drunk driver, but Jake is in the process of fixing it for her.
