Tropes that appear in this fanfic:

  • Adapted Out: Jeremiah Valeska. Here, Jerome is the one who makes a failed attack on Selina and Bruce.
  • Batter Up!: Mr. Washington, the host of the wedding reception where Bruce beats up Brant, mentions that Thomas Wayne took a cricket bat to someone who insulted Martha, knocking him into a pool.
  • Bling-Bling-BANG!: Jerome used a gold-plated revolver in his Sadistic Choice game with Selina.
  • But We Used a Condom!: Bruce and Selina used a condom, plus Selina was on birth control pills. Not that it mattered.
  • Call-Back:
  • Does Not Like Guns: Selina initially refuses a pistol when she cashes out with Barbara and Tabitha but the latter insists on giving her a gun since close quarters isn't going to be an option as her pregnancy progresses and Bruce has a tendency to attract trouble.
  • Double Standard: Selina accuses Gordon of harboring these when he asks who's the father of her unborn child. As far as Selina's concerned, the only person she'd sleep with is Bruce.
  • Everything Sounds Sexier in French: Bruce starts exclaiming in French while having sex with Selina.
  • Foreign Cuss Word: Bruce shouts something in French after Jerome is down. Whatever he shouts isn't mentioned but Alfred is left shaken.
  • Frying Pan of Doom: Bruce knocks Jerome out with a frying pan after Selina shoots him.
  • Glad-to-Be-Alive Sex: Bruce and Selina have Their First Time after an encounter with Jerome Valeska.
  • Grievous Bottley Harm: Selina hits Barbara in the head with a bottle of vodka when she makes the error of calling her baby a mistake.
  • Groin Attack: Selina shoots Jerome in the balls.
  • In-Series Nickname: Selina calls her unborn child "kitkat" because it's one of the few things she can actually eat.
  • Interrupted Intimacy:
    • Gordon interrupts Selina and Bruce's night together.
    • Selina and Bruce wind up returning the favor at Dr Thompkins' clinic when they barge in on Gordon having sex with Dr. Thompkins.
  • Morning Sickness: Selina opens the story puking before learning she's carrying Bruce's baby.
  • Never Mess with Granny: Selina's landlady Coraline Anna-Mae Sanders, or Ms. Coco, is a former Black Panther Party member who doesn't take nonsense from tenants and will fight off robbers with nunchucks.
  • The Nicknamer: Selina has a tendency to give various characters nicknames, like Alfred being Lurch, Gordon being Captain America, Bruce being Encyclopedia Brown, or calling Jerome Krusty the Clown.
  • No-Holds-Barred Beatdown: Bruce pummels another young man named Brant for insulting Selina. It isn't really a contest since Brant is drunk and doesn't know how to fight.
  • A Real Man Is a Killer: Or in this case "a bigshot in Gotham is a killer", which is why Jerome tries to have Selina shoot Bruce. Turns out that Selina has already killed someone: Reggie. Jerome just shrugs and gives her a thumbs up when he gets told that.
  • Sadistic Choice: Jerome gave Selina a gun and a choice: shoot Jerome in the head and be arrested for murder, or shoot Bruce in the head. Selina decides to Take a Third Option by shooting Jerome in the "head".
  • Save the Villain: After Selina shoots Jerome and Bruce knocks him out, Bruce immediately grabs a tablecloth and uses his belt to stop the bleeding.
  • Shout-Out:
    • A couple references to Juno.
    • Selina refers to Alfred as Lurch or 007's domestic cousin.
  • Small Role, Big Impact: Jerome Valeska only appears once via flashback, but his attack on Bruce and Selina results in their Relationship Upgrade.
  • Spared by the Adaptation: Jerome. Instead of falling off a roof, he's shot in the balls by Selina, survives surgery, and is imprisoned in Arkham... again.
  • Teen Pregnancy: Selina is 19 when she conceives her child with Bruce who's a year younger than her.
  • Too Much Alike: Selina and Alfred frequently clash due to this. Despite having very different ideas of morality, they're forceful, protective, and stubborn people who also have Bruce's best interests at heart.
