Missing Links by spagbol99 is a MCU fan fiction where Peter Parker is Tony Stark's son Luca who was kidnapped 12 years earlier. They are reunited after Peter, being in the wrong place at the wrong time, is arrested and his fingerprints hit a match in the database for missing kids. The story takes place after the events of Captain America: Civil War.

Missing Links contains examples of:

  • Adaptational Sexuality: While in canon, Steve and Bucky are depicted as being straight, here they are bisexual.
  • Adaptation Relationship Overhaul: While in canon, Steve and Bucky are depicted as being good friends, here their relationship had a romantic aspect even though both did peruse relationships with different women.
  • All for Nothing: Peter lived on the streets rather than live with an abusive foster father so he could continue to go to Midtown because of it is a very good school that will get him into college and he has friends there. Tony wanted Peter to go to a school that is more used to having students with special security needs like Trinity. Natasha was able to convince Tony that Midtown could be made secure enough for Peter to attend. After a couple of months and Peter was just starting to get back into the extra curricular activities at the school he used to be in, the public finds out Peter is Luca and Tony decides to transfer Peter to Trinity over Peter's protests because Midtown is no longer safe.
  • Anger Born of Worry: Tony learning Peter wasn't at Ned's like he said he would be goes searching for him and is horrified to learn Peter is Spider-Man. When returning to the tower, he yells at Peter in front of Pepper and the Avengers for putting his life on the line.
  • Artistic License – Law: Secretary of State Ross tries to have Bucky arrested for allegedly violating terms of his probation. Such decisions are up to the the Justice Department, not the State Department.
  • Blatant Lies: What everyone thinks of the cover story of Peter being a Stark Industries intern to explain his presence at Avengers Tower and knowing the Avengers.
  • Death By Child Birth: It's implied that Peter's biological mother died from complications after giving birth to him.
  • Department of Child Disservices: After Ben's death and May being left in a coma, three of the four foster homes that Peter was put in had some kind of abuse going on. When the fourth home proved to be abusive, not wanting to be placed in another home, Peter ran away and lived on the streets but still attended school taking advantage of his 'foster father' being too interested in getting a pay check from the state to want to report Peter not being home. Naturally, when Tony learns Peter is his son, he demands Peter come live with him at Avengers Tower immediately regardless of what Child Protective Services says is standard practice for reuniting a child with an estranged parent which involved being put in a foster home.
  • Dramatic Irony: Tony and Harley think Peter is into drugs or selling them because Harley found a bag of drugs in Peter's desk drawer. In reality, Peter had them given to him out of the blue at Trinity by Harry Osborn and were the best lead he has had in locating Ben's killer.
  • For Want Of A Nail: May being left in a coma after the incident that killed Ben resulted in Tony not being able to recruit Spider-Man before confronting the rogue Avengers in Berlin. It also resulted in The Avengers managing to reunify under a revised Sokovia Accords.
  • Helicopter Parents: Tony is like this at first with Peter. Things Tony has done that Peter feels are too controlling include:
    • He isn't allowed to leave the tower without an adult chaperone which is enforced by FRIDAY, the AI system that runs the building.
    • Tony wants to transfer him to a different school because Midtown isn't used to having students with special security needs.
    • Tony wants all his friends and their parents to sign NDAs.
    • Tony wants him to have a larger wardrobe.
    • Tony wants him to always have something that can be used to track his location.
  • Identity Breakdown: Peter starts to have one after learning he is Tony's son Luca.
  • In Spite of a Nail: Despite being placed in foster care and later living on the streets, Peter still becomes Spider-Man and Ned learns of it.
  • Internal Reveal:
    • In chapter 47, the world is told Peter is Luca Stark.
    • In chapter 69, Tony finds out Peter is Spider-man. The rest of the Avengers learn in chapter 70.
    • In chapter 71, Peter learns Ben paid to have a forged birth certificate made so Peter could go to school.
  • My God, What Have I Done?:
    • Tony's reaction when he realizes he had for the first time totally forgotten his son's birthday in Chapter 3.
    • Bucky's reaction when he learns Peter saw Ben and May get shot after he allowed Peter to see live footage of an Avenger mission where Tony got seriously injured by a bomb.
    • Bucky's reaction when he attacked Peter who was trying to wake him up from a nightmare.
  • Noodle Incident:
    • Falcon got tangled up in power lines. Tony took pictures of it.
    • It is mentioned in chapter 23 that a kid once got separated from his tour group at Avengers Tower and ended up somewhere visitors are not allowed to be.
    • In chapter 26, there a couple are briefly mentioned when Tony asked some friends of the Parkers for embarrassing stories about Peter:
      • Peter once tripped on his shoelaces while carrying a plate of hot dogs.
      • Peter once fell into a trash can while riding a bicycle without glasses.
    • The chocolate fountain gate of 2011. It was at a gala and a woman named Cecile was still mortified over it years later.
  • Related in the Adaptation: Peter is Tony's son.
  • The Runaway: After being placed in another abusive foster home, Peter ran away and lived on his own on the streets.
  • Secret Relationship: Tony and Peter's mother were secretly married. The relationship was so secret that after Peter was born, the public had no idea who his mother was.
  • That Came Out Wrong: When Peter is telling the Avengers how he earned money for food while living on the streets, he said he did tricks meaning doing stunts and flips to entertain tourists. When he realized the adults thought he meant the other kind of tricks, he quickly clarified what he meant.
  • Wham Episode:
    • Chapter 37. The forger of Peter's fake birth certificate was paid to do it by Ben leaving others wondering if the comatose May knew.
    • Chapter 42. Steve tells Bucky sexual dreams Bucky has of him were not dreams. They were memories.
    • Chapter 57. Harry Osborn gives Peter a bag of drugs. The same type of drugs that Ben's killer sells.
    • Chapter 62. Bucky wakes up from a nightmare and attacks Peter who was trying to wake him.
    • Chapter 65. May dies.
    • Chapter 69. Tony sees Peter use his webshooters.
